Legendary singer Asha Bhosle<\/a> has passed away, leaving a void no one can ever fill. Over a career spanning 8 decades, Asha Bhosle recorded over 12,000 songs. Weeks before her death, Asha lent her iconic voice to \u201cThe Shadowy Light,\u201d a track from Gorillaz\u2019s India-inspired album The Mountain (Parvat). This marked her final musical appearance.\n<\/p>\n

The Mountain marks the ninth studio album by Gorillaz and brings together an unique blends of artists including including Gruff Rhys, flautist Ajay Prasanna and sarod maestros Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash.\n<\/p>\n

The versatile album also features collaborations with sitar virtuoso Anoushka Shankar and vocalist Asha Puthli.\n<\/p>\n

Earlier, during the release of the album, Asha wrote a long post on Instagram. It read, \u201cVisiting Varanasi<\/a> and travelling along the most sacred river Ganges, observing closely what I saw, I understood the meaning of life, who I was and what I was supposed to do on earth.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In another post, she had reflected that the song is about her life\u2019s journey.\n<\/p>\n

She wrote, \u201cOn \u2018The Shadowy Light\u2019, my crossing this deep river signifies my life\u2019s journey\u2026 my birth, my relationships, my dedication to music, my achievements and my duties as a daughter, mother, sister, wife and a Hindu Indian. The boatman is my music, my guide across this river of life, and when I get to the other side, my journey shall be complete. I shall attain moksha <\/em>(ultimate freedom), wherein I shall become one of the thousands of sounds floating all around us. If you put some of them together, they form a beautiful tune. Therefore, I shall become one of those sounds, which shall eventually become a musical note in a beautiful song which shall be heard by several generations for thousands of years. This freedom to become one with nature is what awaits me on the other side of the river.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Asha Bhosle died on April 12 and breathed her last at the Candy Breach Hospital in Mumbai. Her sister Lata Mangeshkar<\/a> had passed away at the same hospital four years ago.\n<\/p>\n
