There\u2019s a huge royal celebration with a stand out guest list and
\nnow the guessing game is under way for who else might be heading to
\nthe palace party of the year. At the end of April 2026, the King of
\nSweden is marking a major birthday and is gathering crowned heads
\naround him for the occasion. Many royal houses have already
\nconfirmed their attendance but the question of whether anyone from
\nthe House of Windsor will be there remains unanswered.<\/p>\n

The party in question takes place in Stockholm on April 30 when
\nKing Carl XVI Gustaf, the longest reigning monarch on the continent
\nof Europe right now, celebrates his 80th birthday. He\u2019s holding
\nseveral celebrations, as you can when you\u2019re king of a whole
\ncountry, and right in the middle of it is a glittering gala dinner
\nat the Royal Palace where he will be joined by kings, queens,
\nprinces and princesses.<\/p>\n

Several royal houses have already said they will be there. His
\nfriend and relations from Denmark are ready with King Frederik and
\nQueen Mary expected in Stockholm, despite her recent bereavement.
\nFrederik X\u2019s mother, Queen Margrethe, will also be there. The King
\nand Queen of Norway are also expected to attend \u2013 they\u2019re also
\nfamily as well as friends.<\/p>\n

Given the closeness between the royal families of Denmark,
\nSweden and Norway, it\u2019s not really a surprise. However, similar
\nparties in the past, including that thrown by the King of Sweden
\nwhen he turned 70, have counted on a strong all round royal turn
\nout. That\u2019s not a surprise. King Carl XVI Gustaf, who has reigned
\nfor 53 years, is friends with plenty of royal families. However,
\nthe question of whether King Charles and Queen Camilla will be
\nthere is a difficult one as they are concluding a State Visit to
\nthe US around that time. Which means they might need to send
\nrepresentatives.<\/p>\n

Previously, the now Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh have been the
\nroyal go tos for major parties like this. Through the 2000s and
\n2010s, Edward and Sophie were regular fixtures at European royal
\nevents and attended the weddings of King Carl Gustaf\u2019s three
\nchildren, starting with that of Crown Princess Victoria in 2010.
\nThey were also at 80th birthday celebrations for another royal with
\nclose connections to the Windsors when they headed to Oslo for King
\nHarald\u2019s party in 2017.<\/p>\n

However, it looks like they won\u2019t be there for the big Swedish
\nparty as both have engagements already listed for April 30 2026 on
\nthe official royal website.<\/p>\n

Another answer might be the Prince and Princess of Wales. If
\nevery monarchy in Europe ends up sending their monarch or their
\nheir, then Prince William and Kate would be the obvious pick.<\/p>\n

However, the question has been asked about whether the Windsors
\nwill send anyone at all. They\u2019ve missed other big European royal
\nevents and given the already large number of diary clashes, it
\nmight be that they\u2019re taking a rain check on this one, too.<\/p>\n

Either way, the party is set to start in Stockholm at the end of
\nthe month and sparkle is guaranteed.<\/p>\n
