Pop star Britney Spears, a Louisiana native, voluntarily checked into a treatment facility over the weekend, a representative for Spears confirmed to The Los Angeles Times.<\/p>\n
This latest move by the singer, who grew up in Kentwood, follows her March 4 arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs in Ventura County. She’s had several stints in rehab over the years to address her drug addiction and other mental health issues.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Spears’ frequent, bizarre Instagram posts of the last few years, including one in 2023 in which she danced holding a pair of knives she said were fake, have concerned her devoted fans. Her last post on Instagram was about 7 p.m. Saturday.<\/p>\n
Spears was released from a controversial, nearly 14-year conservatorship in 2021, after she testified that the arrangement was abusive, according to The Times.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
As far as her March arrest, Spears was reportedly driving “erratically at a high rate of speed” before the California Highway stopped her. The officers said Spears “showed signs of impairment,” and they also found a substance in her car, according to a law enforcement source.<\/p>\n
Spears is scheduled to appear in court May 4 for her DUI arrest, The Times also reported.<\/p>\n
Spears, 44, rose to fame in the early 2000s with hits like “Baby One More Time,” “Oops!\u00a0\u2026 I Did It Again” and “Toxic.” Her self-titled 2001 album is one of the 21st century’s best-selling albums.<\/p>\n
