LAS VEGAS<\/strong> \u2013 Tom Holland\u2019s Peter Parker<\/a> is dealing with the reality of making his friends forget his identity in the upcoming \u201cSpider-Man\u201d movie.<\/p>\n

Sony Pictures unveiled new footage from \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day\u201d Monday at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, in which Zendaya\u2019s<\/a> character MJ apparently has a boyfriend.<\/p>\n

Five years after \u201cSpider-Man: No Way Home\u201d<\/a> became a sensation in theaters, earning over $1.9 billion worldwide thanks in part to the appearance of past Spider-Men Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, the webslinger\u2019s fourth standalone movie is one of the most hotly anticipated of the summer. Its trailer already broke records.<\/p>\n

Tom Holland, in a video message, told the exhibitors in the audience that it\u2019s the most emotional Spider-Man movie yet, and \u201cthe most grown-up.\u201d He introduced an early scene in the new film showing the aftermath of his decision at the end of \u201cNo Way Home.\u201d In the sequence, he attends a housewarming party for MJ and Jacob Batalon\u2019s Ned and introduces himself as \u201cMaynard \u2026 just a neighbor from across the hall.\u201d<\/p>\n

Destin Daniel Cretton, who made the Marvel movie \u201cShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings\u201d stepped in to direct this newest \u201cSpider-Man,\u201d which opens in theaters on July 31.<\/p>\n

Sony Chairman and CEO Tom Rothman kicked off the evening saying he believes \u201cit\u2019s going to be an Olympic level movie year overall\u201d while also acknowledging the industry\u2019s \u201cserious challenges\u201d<\/a> including that admissions have been down since before the pandemic.<\/p>\n

Studios, he said, need to deliver a variety of great films for all audiences. He also made some recommendations for theaters, imploring them to enforce longer theatrical windows \u201ceven if that means you cannot play every film,\u201d to get rid of endless advertising before films and make going to the theater more affordable.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not heckling,\u201d Rothman said. \u201cI\u2019m rooting for you.\u201d<\/p>\n

The studio also announced the development of an R-rated adaptation of the video game \u201cBloodborne,\u201d and the release date of \u201cGodzilla Minus One\u201d director Takashi Yamazaki\u2019s English language debut, \u201cGrand Gear,\u201d which will begin filming soon. It\u2019s scheduled to hit theaters on Feb. 18, 2028.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
