The global record industry has welcomed the latest court order in Brazil targeting a platform that offers stream manipulation services, allowing users to artificially boost streams on Spotify<\/strong>, SoundCloud<\/strong> and YouTube Music<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n A court in S\u00e3o Paulo has told the company behind a platform known as Boom de Seguidores<\/strong> to cease providing services that distort digital markets and deceive consumers, while also issuing web-blocks against the company\u2019s domains.\u00a0<\/p>\n It\u2019s the latest judgement secured by Operation Auth\u00eantica<\/strong>, which is led by CyberGaeco<\/strong>, a cybercrime unit within the prosecutor\u2019s office of Sao Paulo.\u00a0<\/p>\n Welcoming the ruling, Paulo Rosa<\/strong> from Brazilian record industry trade group Pro-M\u00fasica Brasil<\/strong> explains that the court concluded that the operators of Boom de Seguidores were \u201coffering misleading advertising and committing fraud\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n Melissa Morgia<\/strong>, Global Chief Content Protection Officer at IFPI<\/strong>, has also welcomed the judgement. She says that courts in Brazil have \u201cconsistently confirmed that services that enable streaming fraud mislead consumers and are unlawful\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n This \u201cillicit business model\u201d, she adds, \u201ccommercialises fraud and, in the music context, ultimately diverts royalties from legitimate creators. IFPI would like to thank the authorities for their ongoing efforts and will continue to support actions that create serious consequences for those involved\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n Stream manipulation and streaming fraud is a multi-layered problem which requires multi-layered solutions, though going after the companies that overtly sell stream manipulation services is an important part of that work.
