Bj\u00f6rk<\/a> has announced a new solar eclipse rave she will be hosting in Iceland this summer, and confirmed that a new album is arriving in 2027.<\/p>\n The new event is a one-day festival held in V\u00ed\u00f0ista\u00f0at\u00fan, Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur on Wednesday August 12, and dubbed Echolalia. It will host a DJ set from Bj\u00f6rk, as well as performances from electronic music star Arca<\/a> and local talent Sideproject and Ronja J\u00f3hannsd\u00f3ttir.<\/p>\n During the event, there will be a two hour eclipse where the site will be bathed in the natural half-light, and just over one minute of \u201ctotality\u201d, where the moon completely obscures the sun and creates total darkness.<\/p>\n The event will also include celebrations to mark 40 years of the Icelandic record label, Smekkleysa, and those who buy tickets to the rave will also get admission into Bj\u00f6rk\u2019s Echolalia<\/em> exhibition at Reykjav\u00edk\u2019s National Gallery of Iceland.<\/p>\n The showcase will have three new songs of hers presented \u201con a theatrical scale\u201d. The first two are \u2018Ancestress\u2019 and \u2018Sorrowful Soil\u2019, both composed by Bj\u00f6rk in memory of her late mother, and the third will be officially shared on the singer\u2019s new album, which has not yet been officially announced and will be released next year.<\/p>\n Visit here for tickets<\/a> and to browse exclusive merchandise for the event, including a compilation of new Icelandic music curated by Bj\u00f6rk.<\/p>\n Announcing the rave on Instagram, Bj\u00f6rk shared that she was \u201cgrateful and thrilled\u201d to unveil the event, and wanted to clarify that there had been \u201ca potential misunderstanding\u201d about the \u201cEcholalia\u201d title.<\/p>\n \u201cEcholalia<\/em> is not the title of my next album. It is an umbrella-exhibition-name; an umbrella that gives two of my \u2018Fossora<\/a>\u2019 songs the treatment I always dreamed of, and some new music,\u201d she wrote, adding that she wanted to showcase \u2018Ancestress\u2019 and \u2018Sorrowful Soil\u2019 in a new way as they \u201cdidn\u2019t seem like live songs\u201d.<\/p>\n The new versions on display at the exhibition will see them \u201cre-record the choir and have textile scores to be enjoyed too\u201d, she explained, also adding that the third song will be a brand new song from an upcoming album.<\/p>\n \u201cThe new music is a version of a song. The final version will be on the new album in 2027,\u201d she added. \u201cBefore you buy your tickets, I want to make sure that you know that I will not be sharing the final instrumentation of my next album until next year.\u201d<\/p>\n Concluding, she wrote: \u201cI know it is a long time, but five years passed between my last two albums and I enjoyed that enormously. I seem to spend longer every time in the world-building and it is extremely satisfying to align all the different elements.\u201d<\/p>\n As well as the rave and the new Echolalia<\/em> exhibition, this summer will also host a separate exhibition in Iceland called Metamorphlings<\/em>, which showcases work by long-time artistic collaborator James Merry and will run from May 30 to September 19.<\/p>\n Bj\u00f6rk spoke to NME<\/em> back in 2022<\/a> about her connection with live music and Iceland, and revealed that while she is often travelling and going to new events, she ultimately feels grounded when she returns to her home country. \u201c \u201cI\u2019m not really an urban person,\u201d she said, explaining the balance between her social life and natural settings. \u201cI love visiting cities and going clubbing or seeing a gallery or concert, but then I just want to go home. I\u2019m more of a rural person by nature, so it was just a total blessing for me to be [in Iceland during the pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n The musician\u2019s last studio album was 2022\u2019s \u2018Fossora<\/a>\u2019, and last December it was revealed that there was a new album on the way \u2013 when she first teased the \u2018Echolalia\u2019 exhibition<\/a> with James Merry.<\/p>\n In a four-star review of \u2018Fossora\u2019<\/a>, NME<\/em> wrote: \u201cAn album of reinfatuation and reaffirmation, \u2018Fossora\u2019 is invigorating in its drive, if there\u2019s little of real surprise here; hard as the mushroom-gabber beats are, if you\u2019ve heard Pluto or Mutual Core, you won\u2019t be shocked. And pop has, to an extent, caught up with Bj\u00f6rk a little; to those raised on Blackpink<\/a>, hyperpop <\/a>and trap<\/a>, \u2018Fossora\u2019 would hardly be so scary.\u201d<\/p>\n Since then, Bj\u00f6rk wrapped up her \u2018Cornucopia\u2019 tour in December 2023, shared the accompanying concert film in 2025<\/a>, supported the \u2018No Music For Genocide\u2019 campaign<\/a> by making her back catalogue unavailable for streaming in Israel, and described Spotify as \u201cprobably the worst thing that has happened to musicians\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n She is also soundtracking a new sci-fi multiplayer game called SEED<\/em><\/a>, and appeared with Rosal\u00eda for a performance at the 2026 BRIT Awards<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<\/blockquote>\n
