Fans have a lot to say | videoclip"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Experts say using YouTube was a return to his roots<\/h2>\n<p>Justin Bieber performed as a headliner at Coachella on April 12.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s one of the biggest music and arts festivals held every year in the desert in California.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Bieber performed while millions of fans watched live on YouTube.<\/p>\n<p>Some were surprised to see him use a laptop to sing along with some of his old music videos instead of using an instrument or a live band.<\/p>\n<p>And like many of us have done before, he watched some funny memes, too.<\/p>\n<p>So what did it look like and why did Bieber do this?<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"fancy-underline\">CBC Kids News contributor Maya Endale is here to explain!<\/span><\/h4>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Why fans have mixed reactions about Justin Bieber\u2019s Coachella performance\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XvNEWXQwhlg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h4><span class=\"fancy-underline\">Bieber\u2019s performance returns to his roots, experts say<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Some artists at Coachella had high-value production in their shows, including a live band, backup dancers, light shows, pyrotechnics and more.<\/p>\n<p>But Bieber decided to do it differently, said Katherine Singh, a pop culture writer from Toronto, Ontario.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome artists don\u2019t need to be that way and it doesn\u2019t necessarily make it a bad performance,\u201d she told CBC Kids News.<\/p>\n<p>Most of Bieber\u2019s performance was simply him on stage with a microphone and a laptop, singing along to some of his old music videos on YouTube.<\/p>\n<p>His performance was a return to his roots, according to Singh.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s kind of how people came to know him. By the videos he posted on YouTube.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"fancy-underline\">Why fans have mixed reactions<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Some fans enjoyed taking a nostalgic tour through YouTube to hear Bieber sing some of his old songs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re all, like, imagining when they were teenagers and they loved these songs,\u201d said Greg Bryant, a music professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd now they\u2019re adults and he\u2019s an adult. It\u2019s a unique experience,\u201d he told CBC Kids News.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, Bryant said that part of him sees Bieber\u2019s performance as taking the easy way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re not really preparing a real performance,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re just relying on your past success and almost anything you do will be good enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So, what did you think of Justin Bieber\u2019s Coachella performance?
