The film is rumored to be called Good Thing<\/em>, a reference to Stewart’s television catchphrase.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n Stewart previously was the subject of the 2020 Netflix documentary, Martha<\/em>, which she criticized.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Cate Blanchett<\/a> has a knack for portraying real-life characters, everyone from the Queen of England (Elizabeth<\/em>) and Katharine Hepburn (The Aviator<\/em>) to Bob Dylan<\/a> (I\u2019m Not There<\/em>). Could her next role be Martha Stewart<\/a>?<\/p>\n The lifestyle guru broke the casting news, seemingly inadvertently, on Tuesday evening as she walked the red carpet at the New York premiere of Brunello: The Gracious Visionary<\/em>, a documentary about Italian fashion designer Brunello Cucinelli.<\/p>\n Asked by a Variety<\/em><\/a> reporter if she would ever want someone to play her on the big screen, Stewart replied, \u201cI hope so\u2026 I\u2019ve been hearing rumors.\u201d<\/p>\n Stewart then went on to spill the tea on what she knows so far. \u201cI think there\u2019s something in the works right now with\u2026 Cate Blanchett,\u201d she teased, raising an approving eyebrow, \u201ccalled Good Thing<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n Variety<\/em><\/a> subsequently reported Blanchett\u2019s casting and confirmed Janicza Bravo (2020\u2019s Zola<\/em>) will direct the biopic. A representative for the actress did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.<\/p>\n Good Thing<\/em> \u2014 a reference to her Martha Stewart Living <\/em>catchphrase, \u201cIt\u2019s a good thing\u201d \u2014 wouldn\u2019t be the first time the entrepreneur\u2019s life story was told onscreen. In 2024, she was the willing subject of Martha<\/em>, a Netflix documentary that she publicly criticized<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n “I love the first half of the documentary,” she admitted to the New York Times<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n The second half, however, focused too much on her 2003 indictment for insider trading, subsequent conviction, and five months in federal prison.<\/p>\n “The trial and the actual incarceration was less than two years out of an 83-year life,\u201d Stewart said in 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n Other gripes were the exclusion of her \u201cutterly fantastic\u201d grandchildren and \u201cmy love of travel.\u201d Stewart was particularly annoyed that Martha<\/em>\u2019s director, R.J. Boy, I told him to get rid of those,” Stewart said of Cutler. “And he refused. I hate<\/em> those last scenes.
