Australian actor Ruby Rose accused<\/a> pop star Katy Perry of sexually assaulting her a decade and a half ago in Melbourne and provincial police confirmed on Wednesday they\u2019re investigating a \u201chistorical sexual assault.\u201d<\/p>\n When asked about Rose\u2019s claims, Victoria Police Sgt. Julie-Anne Newman told NBC News she was unable to discuss specifics about the matter due to \u201cprivacy protocol,\u201d but police confirmed a probe had been launched. <\/p>\n \u201cMelbourne Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT) detectives are investigating a historical sexual assault that occurred in Melbourne in 2010,\u201d according to a Victoria police statement.<\/p>\n \u201cPolice have been told the incident occurred at a licensed premises in Melbourne\u2019s CBD. As the investigation remains ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.\u201d<\/p>\n In the Australian state of Victoria, there is no statute of limitations<\/a> on reporting a sexual offense. <\/p>\n Rose, 40, is best known for her work on \u201cOrange Is the New Black\u201d on Netflix, \u201cBatwoman\u201d on The CW and the movie \u201cJohn Wick: Chapter 2.\u201d<\/p>\n A representative for Perry, 41, declined to comment to NBC News on Wednesday about the investigation.<\/p>\n But in a statement released earlier this week, Perry\u2019s team denied the allegations.<\/p>\n \u201cThe allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous reckless lies,\u201d the statement read. \u201cMs. Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named.\u201d<\/p>\n Rose has previously made allegations<\/a> she was mistreated on the set of \u201cBatwoman,\u201d which Warner Bros. Television has denied. <\/p>\n In a series of since-deleted posts on Threads, Rose on Sunday night posted, \u201cKaty Perry sexual assaulted me at spice market nightclub in Melbourne.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI was only in my early 20s.I\u2019m now 40. It has taken almost 2 decades to say this publicly,\u201d she wrote in another deleted post. \u201cThough I am so grateful to have made it long enough to find my voice, it just shows how much of an impact trauma and sexual assault takes.
