Clinton Kelly and Stacy London for ‘Why’d They Wear That?’ Stacy London and Clinton Kelly are back with a new web series called Why’d They Wear That?<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n The 12-episode series sees them watching their favorite movies and providing commentary on the costume choices<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n The duo tells PEOPLE why this new project \u2014 which they own with production company Simple Alien \u2014 was the right move for them at this point in their lives<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n They’re back!<\/p>\n Our favorite fashionable duo, Stacy London and Clinton Kelly, have teamed up once again for a new web series and podcast called Why’d They Wear That?<\/em> In this series, the two \u2014 who rose to fame as the hosts of What Not to Wear<\/em> two decades ago \u2014 rewatch some of their favorite movies to break down the style choices that live in infamy.<\/p>\n The two went into this project with a bit of a “f— it” attitude. Literally.<\/p>\n “Well, Stacy and I, once we realized that Amazon Prime was maybe not picking up [their previous show, Wear Whatever the F You Want<\/em>], we were like, ‘Fuck this. We want to work together,'” Kelly, 57, tells PEOPLE. “So period, end of story. We’ll figure out what to do together, and we’re not going to wait for some network or streaming service to tell us that now is a good time for us to do something.”<\/p>\n Kelly says they really considered their budget, as they’re not backed by a network (the show is produced by Simple Alien), and put all their focus on showing off the chemistry that hooked viewers 20-plus years ago.<\/p>\n “This is the first time that all of our natural chemistry is going to be released in its entirety,” Kelly says. “A lot of the times \u2014 all the times \u2014 we’re edited.”<\/p>\n The two sit together on a New York City rooftop, trading banter like two people who are fully comfortable with each other and know each other inside and out. It’s easy to see why they want to put their authentic selves and their true friendship on display in this show, as it’s magnetic and hilarious. In a wide-ranging conversation that touched on everything from veneers to ketamine, fashion to movies, the two were incredibly candid about their friendship and how they approach style these days. After all, they are<\/em> the fashion pros.<\/p>\n Though they once were on a show built around telling people what not<\/em> to wear, where London, 56, says they were billed as “critical critters,” they both eventually realized their fashion prowess was not being used to their best ability. Rather than cutting people down, they wanted to lift them up.<\/p>\n “It shouldn’t be me telling you this is what’s better for you,” London says of how her view started to shift. “It’s finding the thing that lights you up and helping bring that out into the open.”<\/p>\n “And my version of that that always fired me or fueled me was, ‘Tell me who you want to be in your wildest dream,'” Kelly adds. “It’s like, ‘What do you want the world to know about you without you ever opening your mouth?’ And I can help you achieve that.”<\/p>\n After filming the TLC show for 10 seasons, the two fell apart for another decade \u2014 that Kelly told PEOPLE in 2025 was largely due to their words and feelings being miscontrued<\/a> by the public \u2014 but eventually reunited for a new take on their fashion advice: Wear Whatever the F You Want<\/em>. With this show, they got to put a more positive spin on the way they helped people get dressed, but it only lasted one season.<\/p>\n With their friendship mended, London and Kelly again reevaluated how they wanted to move forward in the fashion space. So now to go back and rewatch them with an eye toward the costume design, asking, ‘Does the costume design support the character? Does it move the movie along? Does it detract from the storyline? Why’d they wear that?'”<\/p>\n London jokes that when they were watching Poltergeist<\/em> the day before, Kelly got “very upset” over one of Diane’s (JoBeth Williams) costume pieces.<\/p>\n “She looks like she’s ready to go out to lunch with her friend,” he says of the “popcorn sweater” she put on the morning after her daughter got “sucked into another dimension.”<\/p>\n London quips of the costume choice for the mom, “Boost her confidence. When creators own the work, the audience feels it.\u201d<\/p>\n Across this 12-episode series, the duo will bring viewers to tears with laughter and remind everyone why they fell in love with them in the first place: their passion for fashion and their bond with each other. The two agree that there’s no one else they’d rather do this show with, and in fact, the two couldn’t be happier about continuing to work together more than two decades after they met.<\/p>\n They align on their work style and views on fashion, and now that they’re on their own rather than being tied to a corporate entity, the sky is the limit. They both have equal say (along with Simple Alien) in the creation of Why’d They Wear That?<\/em>, unlike on What Not to Wear<\/em>, where London points out that they weren’t even executive producers. It’s all in their hands now.<\/p>\n “All I know is I am not ever going to have a boss again,” Kelly promises while London agrees. “I’m never going to have a f—ing boss again. I’m never going to do it.”<\/p>\n
