Queen Mary of Denmark has made her first public appearance since
\nthe death of her father.<\/p>\n
Mary joined her royal family in Copenhagen as they marked the
\nbirthday of Queen Margrethe.<\/p>\n
The father of Queen Mary, John Dalgleish Donaldson, died at the
\nweekend in his hometown of Hobart, Australia. The Queen of Denmark
\nannounced his death soon afterwards, saying that her heart was
\nheavy and her thoughts were grey at the loss of her beloved
\ndad.<\/p>\n
As Queen Margrethe marked her 86th birthday, Queen Mary and King
\nFrederik joined her for public events at Fredensborg Palace.<\/p>\n
A large crowd had gathered to wish Queen Margrethe a happy
\nbirthday and there was a military parade as well as music from the
\nmilitary band.<\/p>\n
Queen Mary was in mourning, wearing a black trouser suit with a
\ndark blouse. King Frederik wore a dark suit. There were also
\nmourning colours for Queen Margrethe who chose a purple jacket for
\nthe occasion with mauve being an official court colour of
\nmourning.<\/p>\n
The sister of Queen Margrethe, Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, was
\nalso there and wore a black dress with tan coloured jacket as her
\nown mark of respect.<\/p>\n
Queen Margrethe had made another gesture of mourning at an
\nearlier appearance. The former monarch, who ruled Denmark from 1972
\nuntil 2024, visited the Stock Exchange in Copenhagen, one of the
\ncity\u2019s most iconic buildings, which was badly damaged by fire in
\n2024. As she toured restoration works, she wore a grey outfit,
\nagain choosing a colour of mourning for this appearance.<\/p>\n
John Donaldson enjoyed a good relationship with all of his
\nyoungest daughter\u2019s royal relations and was often seen with them as
\nhis grandchildren enjoyed holidays and grew up.<\/p>\n
When John Donaldson\u2019s death was announced, the Danish royals
\nsaid that a private memorial would be held.<\/p>\n
Queen Mary\u2019s youngest children, Prince Vincent and Princess
\nJosephine, are being confirmed on April 18 and it\u2019s understood that
\nthe ceremony will go ahead as planned.<\/p>\n
