LAS VEGAS (AP) \u2014 Christopher Nolan<\/a> gave theater owners a thrilling glimpse of \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d Wednesday evening at CinemaCon in Las Vegas<\/a>. His adaptation of Homer\u2019s epic starring Matt Damon as Odysseus is one of the most hotly anticipated of the year, arriving in theaters on July 17.<\/p>\n \u201c\u2018The Odyssey\u2019 is a story that has fascinated generation after generation for 3,000 years,\u201d Nolan said from the stage. \u201cIt\u2019s not a story, it\u2019s the story.\u201d<\/p>\n He introduced an extended clip from the film showing the arrival of the Trojan Horse and the intense nighttime infiltration of the city of Troy. Or, as Jon Bernthal\u2019s Menelaus calls it, \u201cthe story of the horse.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d is the first motion picture shot entirely on IMAX film<\/a>, thanks to the development of new cameras that aren\u2019t quite so noisy, fulfilling a dream Nolan said he’s had since he was 16.<\/p>\n The film boasts a massive ensemble with Anne Hathaway playing Odysseus\u2019s wife Penelope, Tom Holland as their son Telemachus, Zendaya as the goddess Athena and Robert Pattinson as Antinous, one of Penelope\u2019s suitors. Nolan said it would be quicker to say who isn\u2019t in \u201cThe Odyssey,\u201d Nolan\u2019s first feature since \u201cOppenheimer,\u201d<\/a> which won best picture and best director at the Oscars in 2024.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s always been a film, first and foremost, about this idea of family, this idea of homecoming,\u201d Nolan said, adding that it is almost done.<\/p>\n The footage was shown as part of the Universal Pictures presentation to exhibitors where the studio also has Steven Spielberg\u2019s original science fiction film \u201cDisclosure Day\u201d coming to theaters this summer.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m just really glad not to be following Steven Spielberg,\u201d Nolan said.<\/p>\n Snoop Dogg kicked off the presentation performing \u201cDrop It Like It\u2019s Hot\u201d and announcing that he\u2019s partnered with Universal \u201cto finally tell my story.\u201d Craig Brewer will direct and it\u2019s aiming to be in theaters next year.<\/p>\n \u201cMy movie will be rated R, you can believe that,\u201d he said. \u201cSo kids, get your parents\u2019 permission.\u201d<\/p>\n
