Dan Levy is opening up about how he takes in criticism of his work these days<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n
The Big Mistakes<\/em> co-creator and star said he hasn’t “thought twice about what happens once something is out” after releasing the new Netflix show<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n “I think reading these scathing things that have been written scared me into my shell for a long time,” he added<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Dan Levy<\/a> isn’t thinking about reviews after Big Mistakes<\/em>.<\/p>\n The series co-creator and star, 42, told musician Peaches\u00a0in his conversation for Interview<\/em><\/a> that making the new Netflix project helped him feel a newfound “lightness” about putting something “out into the world.”<\/p>\n “This is one of the few times where I feel so at peace with what we all made,” Levy said in the interview, published on Wednesday, April 15. “I feel so excited about [Big Mistakes<\/em>] that I really haven\u2019t thought twice about what happens once something is out.”<\/p>\n Dan Levy on April 6, 2026 Never miss a story \u2014 sign up for PEOPLE’s free daily newsletter<\/a> to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer\u200b\u200b, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.<\/strong><\/p>\n He added, “I\u2019ve found that criticism has become this incredibly binary thing. It\u2019s either the worst thing anyone\u2019s ever seen or the best. And I think reading these scathing things that have been written scared me into my shell for a long time. It wasn\u2019t until I made this show that I realized if you are thrilled with the work that you do and you feel like what you intended to make is exactly what you\u2019re putting out into the world, you don\u2019t even think about anything other than that.”<\/p>\n As Levy put it, he felt a “lightness going into releasing this to the world,” which he didn’t “think I\u2019ve ever felt before because I\u2019m so happy.”<\/p>\n The new series from Levy, which he co-created with\u00a0Rachel Sennott<\/a>, stars the Schitt’s Creek<\/em> alum alongside\u00a0Taylor Ortega<\/a>\u00a0as\u00a0brother-sister duo<\/a>\u00a0Nicky and Morgan. The pair are “two deeply incapable siblings who are in over their heads when a misguided theft for their dying grandmother accidentally pulls them into the world of organized crime,” per a synopsis.<\/p>\n Levy told PEOPLE that he already has plans<\/a> for a long run if the new series were to secure additional seasons on the streamer. “I know how the entire show ends,” Levy said while on the red carpet at the New York City premiere. “Oh, yeah. You gotta know what you’re playing with before you pitch it to somebody.”<\/p>\n The actor explained that after\u00a0Schitt’s Creek<\/em><\/a> ended in 2020, following a six-season run with dad and co-creator Eugene Levy<\/a>,\u00a0he “really wanted to make sure that the next thing I did in TV gave me that same sense of inspiration and passion and excitement and love and affection for the people I was working with.”<\/p>\n “I love these people so much,” he said of Big Mistakes<\/em>. “I’m so proud of this cast and crew. People are working at, like, 110%. All I did was set the table for these people, and they ate.”<\/p>\n Making the show, he added, was a “really, really special experience,” as he hopes “to tell this story for seasons and seasons and seasons.”<\/p>\n
