Jack Schlossberg<\/a>\u00a0says he had \u201cno problem\u201d with anyone who enjoyed \u201cLove Story,\u201d but he did take issue with how his family was depicted.<\/p>\n The grandson of former President John F. Kennedy was asked about the hit Ryan Murphy show about his late uncle John F. Kennedy Jr. and wife Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s tumultuous romance and tragic deaths during an interview on \u201cNext Question with Katie Couric.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n The 33-year-old, who\u2019s\u00a0currently running for Congress<\/a>, reflected on his uncle’s life and legacy, saying that Kennedy Jr. \u201cwas so cool.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not surprising that people, once they remember who he was, want to dress like him and be like him. He was awesome. He was a smart, attractive person, who cared about politics,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd tried to blend politics and media in his time, just like I\u2019m trying to do right now with social media and politics and our campaign right now.\u201d<\/p>\n In the FX series, newcomer\u00a0Paul Anthony Kelly portrayed Kennedy Jr<\/a>., while Sarah Pidgeon took on the role of Bessette.\u00a0Schlossberg\u2019s parents, Caroline Kennedy<\/a>\u00a0and Ed Schlossberg, were also portrayed by Grace Gummer and Ben Shenkman, respectively.<\/p>\n Jack Schlossberg issue with the fictionalized drama, he said, came amid the \u201cserious problems facing our country,\u201d adding that the Kennedy\u2019s are not just celebrities or icons.<\/p>\n \u201cThese are public servants,\u201d he explained. \u201cIt\u2019s easy to remember my grandfather, my grandmother, my uncle, who were very glamorous people, as just celebrities like people today, but they were public servants. We\u2019re not royalty. We don\u2019t have a royal family in this country.\u201d<\/p>\n He celebrated and applauded his late uncle for his political efforts but noted that the problem with the show was in fictionalizing and sensationalizing his romantic life \u201cwithout giving any credence to the serious things that he did.\u201d<\/p>\n The congressional candidate noted that he and his mom did not watch the show, but he did show her a \u201cclip\u201d of Gummer\u2019s portrayal.<\/p>\n \u201cWe were laughing so hard,\u201d he said. \u201cThe person was freaking out and we\u2019re just laughing so hard as if that\u2019s how my mom acts.\u201d<\/p>\n He reminded people to \u201ckeep in mind, it might be entertaining, but it\u2019s fiction.\u201d<\/p>\n Jack Schlossberg also called out one particular look that actor Ben Shenkman, who portrayed his father, wore on the show.<\/p>\n \u201cOh, and my dad! They had my dad dressed up in some plaid outfit,\u201d Jack Schlossberg said. \u201cMy dad\u2019s the most stylish guy I\u2019ve ever met, so it\u2019s funny.\u201d<\/p>\n When Katie Couric expressed that she didn\u2019t think his parents were portrayed in a positive way, he replied that they are \u201cthe two nicest, most dignified, private people in the whole world who do nothing but help others.\u201d<\/p>\n And while Jack Schlossberg may have called it a \u201cstupid show,\u201d \u201cLove Story\u201d did go on to become a cultural phenomenon. The drama became the\u00a0most-watched limited series ever<\/a>\u00a0on Hulu and Disney+. On March 6, TODAY reported that the first five episodes were streamed more than 25 million hours since its Feb. 12 premiere. People would go on to\u00a0re-create Bessette\u00a0<\/a>and\u00a0JFK Jr.\u2019s style,\u00a0<\/a>as well as\u00a0bring teenagers and their parents together<\/a>\u00a0as they watched the show.<\/p>\n In her interview, Couric wondered if Jack Schlossberg saw the show\u2019s success and interest among the younger generation and new voters as a win for his campaign.<\/p>\n \u201cI struggle to find a universe where someone taking advantage of my family is helping me,\u201d he said, calling it a \u201cmixed bagged.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cBut I\u2019m really proud of the person, the family that I come from,\u201d he continued. \u201cbecause our family\u2019s legacy is of public servants and standing up for people who have been marginalized, and using politics to try to inspire people to believe in their country and to fight for what they believe in.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tJack Schlossberg is an attorney, political correspondent and member of the next generation in the Kennedy family political dynasty.
