In an exclusive interview with Far Out<\/em>, Swedish singer-songwriter Jos\u00e9 Gonz\u00e1lez<\/a> revealed that he collaborated with AI chatbot ChatGPT to come up with the lyrics for the closing song on his new album.<\/p>\n

In late March, Gonz\u00e1lez released his fifth full-length studio album, Against The Dying Of The Light<\/a><\/em>. The lead single, \u2018Perfect Storm\u2019, tackled the wider psycholigcal questions the rise in AI usage has stirred up.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, the musician also released an accompanying music video for the single, which was \u201ca product of human creativity, enabled by Aritifical Intelligence\u201d and used an entirely \u201csynthetic cast\u201d who appear hyper-realistic in their melancholy despite being digital creations.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Far Out, <\/em>Gonz\u00e1lez explained his approach to AI, and said that he is \u201ccurious about this new technology\u201d.<\/p>\n

He went on to share that the closing song on Against The Dying Of The Light<\/em>, \u2018Joy (Can\u2019t Help But Sing)\u2019 was written with his \u201cassistant\u201d, the AI platform used by 900 million people globally.<\/p>\n

Gonz\u00e1lez collaborated with two different models of Chat GPT to innovate within specific lyrical parameters, and saw a clear difference in the success of the two models.<\/p>\n

He told Chat GPT that \u201cthe first verse should be about this, the second should be about this\u2026 So [version] 4.5 was actually way better than 4.0. All of a sudden it could actually rhyme and had the right amount of syllables.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Gonz\u00e1lez was still involved in the process to a granular level; \u201cI still had to prompt for a very long time and did a lot of editing,\u201d he reassured.<\/p>\n

The lyrics to the song paint a mystical, timeless and evocative atmosphere, as an undisclosed \u201cwe\u201d admits to being endlessly moved to musical expression<\/a>: \u201cThe dawn hasn\u2019t changed, a thousand lights dissolve the gray. As we cognify everything, we\u2019re still primates, who can\u2019t help but sing,\u201d Gonz\u00e1lez sings.<\/p>\n
