In the music video for her new single, \u201cDrop Dead,\u201d off her forthcoming third studio album<\/a> you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love<\/em>, Olivia Rodrigo<\/a> embraces her inner Parisian<\/a>. She takes viewers through an empty Palace of Versailles, dancing through the ornate halls in a Pre-Fall 2026 Chlo\u00e9 by Chemena Kamali dress, singing about a boy who, fittingly, looks \u201clike an angel on the walls of Versailles.\u201d However, the French references don\u2019t end there.<\/p>\n

As it turns out, Rodrigo\u2014who was styled by Chloe & Chenelle Delgadillo<\/a> for the video\u2014appears to be making a nod to one of France\u2019s most-famous style icons: Jane Birkin<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At the beginning of the visual, the Grammy winner is seen dancing in a crowded bar, wearing an off-white minidress embellished with large pearl-like orbs along the bottom hem and cuffs of the mid-length sleeves.<\/p>\n

This dress appears to be a near-exact replica of the Loris Azzaro crochet minidress<\/a> that Birkin wore in the 1975 French film Catherine et Cie, <\/em>where she plays a sex worker who tries to found her own escort company and encounters a series of comical obstacles along the way.<\/p>\n

Rodrigo, like so many young women, has seemingly channeled<\/a> the model, actor, and singer-songwriter\u2019s style before, however, this is more of an overt reference than she has ever displayed in the past.<\/p>\n

Of course, Birkin notably had very complicated romantic relationships<\/a> throughout her life, and Rodrigo has notably claimed that her latest album will be defined by \u201csad love songs,\u201d as she told British Vogue<\/em><\/a>. So, this homage likely isn\u2019t a coincidence.<\/p>\n

You seem pretty sad for a girl so in love <\/em>will be released on June 12, and if I were making bets, I\u2019d guess that Rodrigo still has a few more Easter eggs<\/a> and references in store. Check out the video below.<\/p>\n
