\n\tBy the time she was in her early 20s, Thalia<\/a> was already a global celebrity. As the lead star of the so-called \u201cMar\u00eda Trilogy\u201d of telenovelas in the \u201990s \u2014 which aired in more than 180 countries to an audience of nearly 2\u00a0billion \u2014 she found fans wherever she went, no matter how far-flung the locale.<\/p>\n

\n\tBut for Thalia, who started her career as a child and came to fame in the \u201980s both as an actor and as a member of the influential Mexican pop group Timbiriche, her early-\u201990s breakout was a period of significant and challenging adjustment.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s very intense to think [about] because I was surviving back then,\u201d the now 54-year-old recalls, almost in tears. \u201cI never thought back then that I was an example for a little girl looking up at me while I was struggling. I was going through pain. I was going through tears. I was doubting myself. I did not believe in myself. I was just a teenager. I started very, very young, and I never expected to be an example in my worst moments for someone.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBut today, the artist born Ariadna Thalia Sodi Miranda is a powerful, resilient and transformed woman. Since 1990, when she launched her solo music career with progressive pop-rock melodies and a flirtatious persona, she\u2019s placed 41 entries on Billboard<\/em>\u2019s Latin Pop Airplay<\/a> chart, the third-most for a woman in the list\u2019s history, behind only Shakira (56) and Ednita Nazario (44). She\u2019s been a fixture on other Latin charts \u2014 29 entries on Latin Airplay<\/a>, 26 on Hot Latin Songs<\/a>, 16 on Top Latin Albums<\/a> \u2014 and has notched seven titles on the all-genre Billboard\u00a0200<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tAnd beyond her enduring charts presence, the Queen of Latin Pop and Queen of Telenovelas (as she\u2019s known) has bridged generations, supporting and collaborating with emerging Latin acts such as Maluma, Prince Royce, Natti Natasha and Lali early in their careers.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s kind of like a mission for me,\u201d she explains, recalling how veterans such as Juan Gabriel and Emilio Estefan lent their support when she was a new artist. \u201cIt\u2019s just something that we have to do in this industry. We have to look [after] each other; we have to protect each other. It\u2019s a big family.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI was just starting out,\u201d Prince Royce says of working with Thalia on the 2013 track \u201cTe Perdiste Mi Amor,\u201d \u201cso having someone as iconic as her believe in the music and want to work with me was definitely an honor.\u201d The collaboration reached No.\u00a04 on Hot Latin Songs and topped Latin Airplay. \u201cEvery time I see her, she\u2019s full of energy and always has a big smile on her face,\u201d he adds. \u201cShe\u2019s passionate about what she does.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tYears later, Natti collaborated with Thalia for the cheeky 2018 reggaet\u00f3n track \u201cNo Me Acuerdo,\u201d which peaked at No.\u00a014 on Hot Latin Songs. \u201cShe has managed to reinvent herself over the years without losing her essence \u2014 something that is incredibly difficult to achieve,\u201d the Dominican singer says. \u201cShe boasts an impressive career and has connected with various generations, always representing Latin culture with great strength and elegance. Furthermore, her energy, discipline and love for music have kept her relevant for decades. That is a feat that very few artists manage to accomplish.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAt her Women in Music shoot \u2014 where she arrives in slouchy jeans and a brown sweater, before changing into a strapless red gown, her signature mane of loose waves draped over her shoulders \u2014 she radiates excitement and allure. She\u2019s receiving the Icon honor, and in just a few days, she\u2019ll release Todo Suena Mejor En Cumbia<\/em>, a new all-cumbia<\/em> album that includes her Los \u00c1ngeles Azules collaboration \u201cYo Me Lo Busqu\u00e9,\u201d which hit No.\u00a01 on the Regional Mexican Airplay<\/a> chart in May 2025 \u2014 and a cumbia cover of ABBA\u2019s \u201cDancing Queen.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m very relaxed in my life right now and feel happy in my own skin. I feel that it\u2019s a moment of celebration, and cumbia is exactly that,\u201d she says. \u201cIt\u2019s a party, family, memories, roots, neighborhood, and it\u2019s just a project that\u2019s so dear to my heart. It\u2019s part of me growing up in Mexico. Cumbia is a big part of our DNA.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe singer and actor \u2014 who\u2019s also an entrepreneur, has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and appears as one of the female leaders highlighted in Amazon Prime\u2019s docuseries The CEO Club <\/em>\u2014 has no plans of slowing down. When asked what defines an icon, her answer is simple: \u201cI conquer, right?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThen she elaborates. \u201cI don\u2019t take myself too seriously anymore,\u201d she explains. \u201cThere was a moment when everything was life or death, black or white, now or never. Now, it\u2019s just taking it easy. It\u2019s OK. I earned my place. When [fans] approach me for a picture, or when they say they were named after me, those moments are when you realize that everything was worth it. All of these years. I always say this is the beginning. An icon is that.\u201d<\/p>\n
