Jenna Bush Hager<\/a> ended this week\u2019s episodes of Today<\/a> With Jenna & Sheinelle<\/em> by getting an early start on Sheinelle Jones<\/a>\u2018 birthday celebrations.<\/p>\n \u201cYou guys, the weekend is here, and I have one suggestion for you,\u201d she told viewers during the Friday, April 17, episode<\/a>, which was prerecorded. \u201cCan we all wish Ms. Sheinelle Jones a happy birthday?\u201d<\/p>\n A Jenna & Sheinelle<\/em> crew member surprised Jones by rolling out a birthday cake decorated with the cover of her new book, Through Mom\u2019s Eyes<\/em><\/a>, which was released<\/a> on Tuesday, April 14. \u201cHappy Birthday! We love you. We are so happy for you,\u201d Bush Hager told Jones, whose actual birthday is on Sunday, April 19. \u201cYou\u2019ve had an incredible birthday week.\u201d<\/p>\n Jones was moved by the sweet birthday gesture. \u201cOkay, I\u2019m not gonna get all emotional, but 47 was a lot. And now, I\u2019m turning 48. And when I turned 47, it was a tough day, on my 47th birthday, and I just couldn\u2019t see the light at the end of the tunnel,\u201d she told Bush Hager, alluding to her late husband Uche Ojeh<\/a>\u2018s private battle with brain cancer.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd so, for 48 to be so wonderful and to be here with you and you guys is just really, it lets you know that if you\u2019re in something, just know that there is light,\u201d she gushed.<\/p>\n NBC<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Bush Hager wrapped up the heartfelt moment by stating, \u201cThere\u2019s gonna be a better birthday ahead. We love you! Happy birthday! I wish we could blow out candles, but they\u2019re afraid we\u2019ll light it on fire.\u201d<\/p>\n 2025 marked a difficult year for Jones and her family. She celebrated her 47th birthday shortly before Ojeh died<\/a> at the age of 45 in May 2025. She returned<\/a> to Today<\/em> that September after taking several months off and was named<\/a> as Bush Hager\u2019s new fourth hour of Today<\/em> cohost in December. Jones\u2019 year ended on a sad note, as her grandmother, Josephine Vonceal Pace Brown, died<\/a> at the age of 96 in December 2025.<\/p>\n Last month, Jones opened up about how her late husband and grandmother inspired<\/a> the release of her new book. \u201cThis was supposed to come out last spring. And the truth is, my husband, Uche, got really sick while I was writing this, and he pushed me to keep going,\u201d she said on the March 23 episode<\/a> of Today<\/em>. \u201cSo, I delayed this for a year after he passed because I wanted to be with him and the kids, but I promised him that I wouldn\u2019t give this up.\u201d<\/p>\n Jones went on to reveal that her grandmother was initially supposed to join her on her Through Mom\u2019s Eyes<\/em> book tour. \u201cGrandmama is all over this book, and she\u2019s in the present tense,\u201d she said. \u201cThey stopped the recording, and the woman said, \u2018If you want to, you can make it past tense.\u2019 And I thought, \u2018No. Grandmama\u2019s alive. Grandmama\u2019s alive in this book.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Jones continued, \u201cI wrote this when my life was, frankly, falling apart, and motherhood doesn\u2019t stop. That\u2019s what I\u2019ve learned. If anything, the volume turns up when life gets hard.
