Meanwhile, the finale culminated in the spiral of the ER\u2019s suicidal senior attending, Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle), who\u2019s still stepping away for a sabbatical he\u2019s not sure he\u2019ll return from.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Newcomer Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi (Sepideh Moafi) was initially brought in to cover Robby\u2019s duties during his absence, much to his displeasure. But after she reveals a condition that leads to seizures \u2014 two of which she suffered during the day\u2019s shift \u2014 Robby feels even more uneasy about leaving the ER.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even his longtime ally, charge nurse Dana (Katherine LaNasa), doesn\u2019t have his full trust after the way she handled nurse Emma\u2019s (La\u00ebtitia Hollard) coked-up attacker with that mysteriously handy sedative at the 6 p.m. hour.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adding to the strain is the ongoing tension between Robby and his prot\u00e9g\u00e9, Dr. Frank Langdon (Patrick Ball) \u2014 the senior resident who just returned from a rehab stint after Robby caught him stealing drugs from the hospital last season. The two finally manage to have a long-overdue conversation after spending most of the shift avoiding each other. However, they still don\u2019t leave on the best of terms after Langdon bluntly points out that \u201cthe mighty Dr. Robinavitch\u201d needs serious help.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And that\u2019s just the tip of the iceberg.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Needless to say, things are far from smooth sailing in \u201cThe Pitt\u201d after that doozy of a finale. Despite her confidence that she can manage her seizures while still running the ER\u2019s day shift, Robby\u2019s first instinct is to threaten reporting her to the administration unless she does it herself. The ultimatum weighs heavily on Al-Hashimi by the end of the episode, as she quietly drives off the hospital parking lot before breaking out in tears.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s the last glimpse we get of her, possibly for good, unless the series decides to bring her back next season. His eventual breakdown felt long overdue after harboring the grief of losing his mentor, Dr. Adamson, during the COVID-19 pandemic. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Season 2, though, the cumulative toll of the death and trauma he\u2019s witnessed inside the hospital becomes more than he can carry. That\u2019s where his repeated mentions of a three-month sabbatical come in. But in the final stretch of episodes, it starts to feel like something far more troubling than just time off.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Throughout the Fourth of July shift, the team \u2014 especially Dana and McKay \u2014 can tell something is off with Robby. And as he hints more about his deteriorating mental state, concern only grows. It all comes to a head in the penultimate episode during an emotional exchange with his motorcycle friend Duke (Jeff Kober), where Robby admits he\u2019s been having suicidal thoughts, confessing, \u201cI don\u2019t know if I want to be here anymore.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When Duke presses him about his exact sabbatical plans, Robby simply says, \u201cRide.\u201d \u201cAway from what?\u201d Duke asks. \u201cEverything,\u201d Robby replies.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWell, that\u2019s not riding, that\u2019s running,\u201d Duke points out.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Soon enough, Robby\u2019s colleagues begin to piece it together, too. His good friend and confidant, fellow attending Dr. Abbot (Shawn Hatosy), finally confronts him about choosing a sabbatical spot \u201csomewhere they used to drive buffalo off a cliff to die.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In another one of their signature heart-to-hearts, Abbot finally says the quiet part out loud, explaining to Robby why he never took his own life despite losing his wife and his leg: \u201cBecause it [death] comes for all of us, man. You and I know it most.
