Just like that, we\u2019ve reached the end of another exhausting shift in \u201cThe Pitt<\/a>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Fortunately, the nurses, doctors and EMTs at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center didn\u2019t have to endure another devastating mass-casualty event to close out 15 hours of day-into-night hospital duties.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Still, Season 2\u2019s Fourth of July mayhem brought plenty of its own turmoil \u2014 from an <\/span>unexpected ICE invasion<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>patient deaths<\/span><\/a> to staff-wide burnout and a cyberattack that forced the already overcrowded hospital to go analog. Meanwhile, the finale culminated in the spiral of the ER\u2019s suicidal senior attending, Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle), who\u2019s still stepping away for a sabbatical he\u2019s not sure he\u2019ll return from.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Newcomer Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi (Sepideh Moafi) was initially brought in to cover Robby\u2019s duties during his absence, much to his displeasure. But after she reveals a condition that leads to seizures \u2014 two of which she suffered during the day\u2019s shift \u2014 Robby feels even more uneasy about leaving the ER.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Even his longtime ally, charge nurse Dana (Katherine LaNasa), doesn\u2019t have his full trust after the way she handled nurse Emma\u2019s (La\u00ebtitia Hollard) coked-up attacker with that mysteriously handy sedative at the 6 p.m. hour.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Adding to the strain is the ongoing tension between Robby and his prot\u00e9g\u00e9, Dr. Frank Langdon (Patrick Ball) \u2014 the senior resident who just returned from a rehab stint after Robby caught him stealing drugs from the hospital last season. The two finally manage to have a long-overdue conversation after spending most of the shift avoiding each other. However, they still don\u2019t leave on the best of terms after Langdon bluntly points out that \u201cthe mighty Dr. Robinavitch\u201d needs serious help.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n And that\u2019s just the tip of the iceberg.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Needless to say, things are far from smooth sailing in \u201cThe Pitt\u201d after that doozy of a finale. While the final hour tries to tie up loose ends, it still leaves viewers with plenty of lingering questions about what\u2019s ahead for the team heading into Season 3.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Here are the biggest storylines we hope the show addresses next season:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n The biggest mystery in \u201cThe Pitt\u201d since the 5 p.m. hour has been the whereabouts of nurse Jesse (Ned Brower). After ICE officers detained him and took him to an undisclosed facility in Episode 11, he hasn\u2019t been seen again, and hardly even mentioned, until a semi-crucial update in Season 2\u2019s penultimate episode.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n As Dr. McKay (Fiona Dourif<\/a>) reveals, the TikTok videos Dr. Javadi (Shabana Azeez) was criticized by Robby for recording during work hours were actually about Jesse, trying to find out where he\u2019s being held. Even so, the finale still doesn\u2019t disclose that information, leaving a gaping hole in what was already a much-talked-about storyline.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Hopefully, Season 3 not only gives us answers about Jesse\u2019s situation but also brings him back to the hospital safe and sound.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cThe Pitt\u201d fandom was rocked to its core this season when it was announced that Supriya Ganesh, who plays senior resident Dr. Samira Mohan, would be <\/span>leaving the series<\/span><\/a> after two seasons. Since the show\u2019s debut, Mohan has been a fan-favorite character, known for advocating for underrepresented and underprivileged patients \u2014 though her leisurely pace in the busy ER also earned her the less-than-flattering nickname \u201cSlow Mo\u201d from her colleagues.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n In Season 2, Mohan\u2019s storyline largely centers on what\u2019s next in her emergency medicine career, as she weighs her elective options after completing her residency. Given her patient approach, Robby suggests she pursue geriatrics as a \u201csmart choice,\u201d per the finale.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n After a tense heart-to-heart in the ambulance bay, it\u2019s unclear whether she\u2019ll take his tough love advice. But it seems the \u201cPitt\u201d writers tried to give her a somewhat proper sendoff, with her and Robby parting on mutual well-wishes of \u201cgood luck.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n How the show will address Mohan\u2019s departure remains to be seen, but fans will surely have something to say about it \u2014 especially after Wyle explained that Ganesh\u2019s exit is \u201c<\/span>an inevitability that\u2019s going to happen every season<\/span><\/a>\u201d because of the nature of the medical drama.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n At the very least, hopefully, \u201cThe Pitt\u201d concludes Mohan\u2019s storyline in a way that honors her character, much like it did with <\/span>Tracy Ifeachor\u2019s Heather Collins<\/span><\/a> following her Season 1 exit.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Speaking of casting changes, the news of Ganesh\u2019s exit also came with an update that Ayesha Harris\u2019 Dr. Parker Ellis \u2014 the fan-favorite senior resident from the night shift \u2014 will be promoted to a series regular in Season 3, per a <\/span>Variety report<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Dr. Ellis appears sporadically throughout Season 2 \u2014 including in the finale, where she helps explain why Robby took Langdon\u2019s addiction so personally while the latter was in rehab \u2014 and she\u2019s expected to have a bigger presence moving forward.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n According to a TVLine interview<\/a> with \u201cThe Pitt\u201d creator R. Scott Gemmill, Harris\u2019 promotion does<\/em> mean Dr. Ellis will graduate from the nightcrawlers to \u201cstart working days,\u201d which fans will likely be happy about.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Season 2 of \u201cThe Pitt\u201d welcomed a host of new faces to the ER, including Dr. Al-Hashimi, med students Joy (Irene Choi) and Ogilvie (Lucas Iverson), nursing school grad Emma (Hollard), Robby\u2019s love interest, case manager Noelle Hastings (Meta Golding), along with Dr. Caleb Jefferson (Christopher Thornton) and Dr. Crus Henderson (Luke Tennie).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n With a few departures following the finale \u2014 and given that the PTMC is a teaching hospital with a constant rotation of residents \u2014 it wouldn\u2019t be surprising to see more casting shake-ups in Season 3.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cWe\u2019re still trying to figure that out ourselves,\u201d Gemmill recently told Variety<\/a>. \u201cBut we\u2019ll definitely see some new faces. That\u2019s part of the fun of the show \u2014 seeing people cycle through.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Hopefully, any newcomers won\u2019t clash with Robby and bring out his worst tendencies again.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n As the finale shows, Robby has a rather poor reaction to the news about Dr. Al-Hashimi\u2019s condition. Despite her confidence that she can manage her seizures while still running the ER\u2019s day shift, Robby\u2019s first instinct is to threaten reporting her to the administration unless she does it herself. The ultimatum weighs heavily on Al-Hashimi by the end of the episode, as she quietly drives off the hospital parking lot before breaking out in tears.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n That\u2019s the last glimpse we get of her, possibly for good, unless the series decides to bring her back next season. It\u2019s unclear whether she\u2019ll return to the hospital while Robby\u2019s away, but he made his stance on her working in his ER during his sabbatical pretty clear.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n The question that\u2019s been hanging over \u201cThe Pitt\u201d\u2014 not just this season, but the entire series \u2014 has been how long until Robby officially goes off the deep end. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Viewers got a glimpse of Robby\u2019s breaking point in Season 1, when he couldn\u2019t save his stepson Jake\u2019s (Taj Speights) girlfriend, Leah (Sloan Mannino), one of the Pitt Fest shooting victims. His eventual breakdown felt long overdue after harboring the grief of losing his mentor, Dr. Adamson, during the COVID-19 pandemic. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n In Season 2, though, the cumulative toll of the death and trauma he\u2019s witnessed inside the hospital becomes more than he can carry. That\u2019s where his repeated mentions of a three-month sabbatical come in. But in the final stretch of episodes, it starts to feel like something far more troubling than just time off.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Throughout the Fourth of July shift, the team \u2014 especially Dana and McKay \u2014 can tell something is off with Robby. And as he hints more about his deteriorating mental state, concern only grows. It all comes to a head in the penultimate episode during an emotional exchange with his motorcycle friend Duke (Jeff Kober), where Robby admits he\u2019s been having suicidal thoughts, confessing, \u201cI don\u2019t know if I want to be here anymore.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n When Duke presses him about his exact sabbatical plans, Robby simply says, \u201cRide.\u201d \u201cAway from what?\u201d Duke asks. \u201cEverything,\u201d Robby replies.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cWell, that\u2019s not riding, that\u2019s running,\u201d Duke points out.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Soon enough, Robby\u2019s colleagues begin to piece it together, too. His good friend and confidant, fellow attending Dr. Abbot (Shawn Hatosy), finally confronts him about choosing a sabbatical spot \u201csomewhere they used to drive buffalo off a cliff to die.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n In another one of their signature heart-to-hearts, Abbot finally says the quiet part out loud, explaining to Robby why he never took his own life despite losing his wife and his leg: \u201cBecause it [death] comes for all of us, man. You and I know it most.
