Caitlyn Jenner<\/a> says she appealed directly to President Donald Trump<\/a> after she was unable to change her passport\u2019s gender marker, the Olympic athlete turned Fox News contributor said on a recent episode of the Tomi Lahren is Fearless<\/em><\/a> podcast.<\/p>\n During a wide-ranging conversation with host Tomi Lahren on April 7, Jenner, who is transgender, said she had been negatively affected by one of the president\u2019s executive orders targeting trans Americans\u2019 access to identity documents that accurately reflect their gender identity.<\/p>\n \u201cToday, documentation is extremely important. Every time you turn around, you gotta show ID, ID, ID,\u201d Jenner, 76, said during the interview. \u201cSo somebody in my position, who has transitioned, I worked very, very hard. I worked with a law firm to make sure everything was changed from \u2018M\u2019 to \u2018F,\u2019 right down to my birth certificate.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAll my documentation was right, my passport, my global entry \u2014 I traveled around the world,\u201d the Republican Keeping Up with the Kardashians <\/em>alum said. But her passport recently expired, and a new one mailed to her by the State Department listed her sex as \u201cmale,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Jenner said she attempted to correct her gender marker herself by mailing the State Department a hard copy of her amended birth certificate. \u201cI did everything,\u201d she said, \u201cand they sent it back, \u2018M,\u2019 they didn\u2019t change it.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWhat do I do?\u201d she added. \u201cThis is a safety factor.\u201d<\/p>\n Trump\u2019s executive order<\/a>, which he signed on his first day back in office, declares that the United States will recognize only two \u201cimmutable\u201d sexes, male and female. \u201cAcross the country, ideologues who deny the biological reality of sex have increasingly used legal and other socially coercive means to permit men to self-identify as women,\u201d the order states. \u201cThis is wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n Government-issued identity documents should reflect a person\u2019s sex \u201cat conception,\u201d the order demanded, prompting the State Department to suspend processing passport applications from Americans seeking to change their gender marker on official documents.<\/p>\n In November, the Supreme Court sided with<\/a> the Trump administration after lower court rulings backed a group<\/a> of transgender and nonbinary Americans who argued the policy was motivated by \u201cimpermissible animus.\u201d<\/p>\n Never miss a story \u2014 sign up for\u00a0PEOPLE’s free daily newsletter<\/a>\u00a0to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer\u200b\u200b, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Jenner, during the conversation with Lahren, said she had reached out directly to Trump, with whom she has maintained a friendship, about her passport. \u201cI was in Mar-a-Lago two months ago, [and] wrote a letter explaining all of this to him, how it\u2019s affecting me and a lot of other people,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cUnfortunately, he wasn\u2019t there that weekend. The Secret Service guy said he could get it to him, put it on his desk and stuff,\u201d Jenner added. \u201cI haven’t heard from him. He\u2019s kind of busy right now. My gender marker is not big on the issue, OK? So, I get that, and I\u2019m not blaming him whatsoever. I love the guy, and I love what he\u2019s doing.\u201d<\/p>\n The White House did not immediately return PEOPLE\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n Other high-profile transgender celebrities, including Euphoria<\/em> star Hunter Schafer<\/a>, have spoken out publicly after their passports were amended to reflect their sex at birth, rather than their gender identity. As of 2021, an estimated 476,000 transgender adults in the U.S. lacked identity documents with their correct gender marker, according to the Williams Institute<\/a>.<\/p>\n
