Inside the ornate Bovard Auditorium, Larry David kept a full audience in stitches as he discussed the creation and legacy of his improv hit, \u201cCurb Your Enthusiasm,\u201d which concluded in 2024 after 12 seasons.<\/p>\n
In conversation with Lorraine Ali \u2014 who wrote \u201cNo Lessons Learned: The Making of Curb Your Enthusiasm,\u201d which retraces the show\u2019s 24-year run with cast interviews, episode guides and behind-the-scenes material \u2014David reflected on the separation between himself and the abrasive on-screen persona he adopted for more than two decades.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wish I was that Larry David,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
David spoke about the outrageous audition process for \u201cCurb,\u201d wherein actors tried to navigate a brief written scenario without any dialogue to guide them as David lambasted them in character. Out of this process came iconic one-liners and beloved characters, such as Leon, played by J.B. Smoove.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople bring out certain things, and when I would act with them, some of them would make me seem funny,\u201d David said. \u201cI go, \u2018Oh, that\u2019s good \u2014 let\u2019s give him a part.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
David cited \u201cPalestinian Chicken\u201d as one of his favorite episodes of the show. In the episode, David is caught between a delicious new Palestinian chicken restaurant, a Palestinian girlfriend and an outraged inner circle of Jewish friends.<\/p>\n
He also spoke briefly about his upcoming episodic HBO series, \u201cLife, Larry and the Pursuit of Happiness,\u201d a historical spoof that will retrace United States history for the country\u2019s 250th founding anniversary. The series will premiere on Aug. 7.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of wigs, costumes, beards \u2014 fake beards,\u201d David said. \u201cNothing worse than fake beards.\u201d<\/p>\n
The controversial ending of \u201cSeinfeld,\u201d which David co-wrote with comedian Jerry Seinfeld, was polarizing among fans when it was released, David said. After a recent rewatch, however, David claimed that he thought it was \u201cpretty good,\u201d to a round of applause from the audience. <\/p>\n
Near the end of the panel, an audience member asked a question some definitely had on their mind: Will \u201cSeinfeld\u201d ever get a reunion?<\/p>\n
