Here&#8217;s what the property looks like in April 2026.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/media-video><\/div>\n<p>The family that runs a celebrated <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.capecodtimes.com\/story\/entertainment\/dining\/2025\/03\/14\/st-patricks-day-things-to-do-eat-cape-cod-ma-pubs\/82227533007\/\">Irish pub<\/a> in Boston wants to open a sprawling tent-covered outdoor entertainment spot in <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.capecodtimes.com\/story\/news\/2025\/10\/07\/dennis-ma-wastewater-plant-sewer-cape-cod-water-construction-detours\/86424972007\/\">Dennis Port<\/a> this summer.<\/p>\n<partner-banner util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" class=\"spacer-large\" min-height=\"600\" fluid=\"\" outstream=\"\" momentum=\"\"\/>\n<p>It&#8217;s a proposal some town officials see revitalizing downtown but has neighbors worried about noise and a diminished quality of life.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/backyardbyfoleys.com\/\">Backyard by Foley&#8217;s<\/a> will stretch from an old two-story structure at 645 Main\u00a0St. almost to\u00a0Rogers Way.\u00a0What is now a vacant lot will be redeveloped into an outdoor entertainment venue with seating for 384 and parking\u00a0for 129 cars.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re looking to create a space for families of all ages,\u201d said partner Michael Foley II in an April 13 telephone call. \u201cWe\u2019re trying to be a draw for Dennis Port.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<partner-banner util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" fluid=\"\" bottom=\"\" lazy=\"\" class=\"spacer-large\" min-height=\"390\" outstream=\"\"\/>\n<p>Foley&#8217;s family runs <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jjfoleyscafe.com\/\">J.J. Foley&#8217;s Cafe in Boston&#8217;s South End<\/a>, founded in 1909 and said to be Boston&#8217;s oldest Irish pub.<\/p>\n<p>Foley wants to bring back foot traffic to\u00a0downtown\u00a0Dennis Port. He wants\u00a0to\u00a0collaborate with small\u00a0local\u00a0businesses\u00a0so they can\u00a0offer pop-up shops,\u00a0outdoor\u00a0workout events,\u00a0a\u00a0farmers\u2019 market,\u00a0perhaps even a\u00a0breakfast pop-up station.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<partner-inline util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" class=\"spacer-large\" placement=\"native-article_link\" sizes=\"[[300, 250], [3, 3]]\" min-height=\"250\" fluid=\"\" outstream=\"\"\/><cta-atoms-container-inline util-module-path=\"elements\/cta\" class=\"spacer-large\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re creating an environment in Dennis Port that is missing,\u201d he told the selectboard at an April 7 meeting. \u201cWe\u2019re\u00a0promoting\u00a0Dennis Port.\u00a0We want to keep\u00a0people moving locally. Dennis Port\u00a0needs more foot traffic.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At that meeting, the selectboard voted to grant seasonal alcohol and entertainment licenses to Foley\u2019s Hospitality Partners LLC.<\/p>\n<partner-banner util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" fluid=\"\" bottom=\"\" lazy=\"\" class=\"spacer-large\" min-height=\"600\" outstream=\"\" momentum=\"\"\/>\n<p>\u201cThis is going to bring back Dennis Port,\u201d said Selectboard member and licensing\u00a0vice-chair John Terrio.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<partner-inline util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" placement=\"native-article_link\" sizes=\"[[300, 250], [3, 3]]\" min-height=\"250\" fluid=\"\" outstream=\"\"\/>\n<p class=\"related-link\"><span class=\"exclude-from-newsgate\"><strong style=\"margin-right:3px\">Cape Cod restaurant news: <\/strong><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.capecodtimes.com\/story\/entertainment\/dining\/2026\/04\/08\/cape-cod-restaurant-yarmouth-ma-front-street-provincetown-ma\/89478728007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Provincetown restaurant moves, new cafe opens in Yarmouth<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Selectboard\u00a0Chairman\u00a0Christopher Lambton agreed. \u201cIt would be a renaissance,\u201d he said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The small downtown is home to Holy Cow\u00a0Ice Cream\u00a0Cafe, Red Nun\u00a0Bar and Grille,\u00a0Knockout Pizza,\u00a0Buckie\u2019s Biscotti,\u00a0the Den,\u00a0an\u00a0antique\u00a0center\u00a0and\u00a0shopping plaza.\u00a0Commercial tenants have left the area over the years.<\/p>\n<p>Foley said a number of business owners have reached out to him regarding some kind of collaboration. A Letter of Intent is in place with Holy Cow Ice Cream Cafe so they can be on site daily, he added.<\/p>\n<p><media-gallery-promo asset-id=\"76182791007\" class=\"column ten-column no-gutter spacer-large\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The license approvals are conditional on the applicant getting health and building department permits.\u00a0<\/p>\n<partner-banner util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" fluid=\"\" bottom=\"\" lazy=\"\" class=\"spacer-large\" min-height=\"390\" outstream=\"\"\/>\n<p>But not everyone at the April 7 public hearing was in favor of the proposal.\u00a0Neighbors who live on South and Edwards streets said the Backyard would be in their\u00a0backyards. They worry that a stockade fence will not dampen the noise coming from the property\u00a0seven days a week. The selectboard approved the licenses\u00a0for 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.\u00a0Monday through Saturday,\u00a0and 11 a.m. to\u00a08 p.m. on Sunday.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Selectboard Vice Chairwoman Carlyn Carey acknowledged\u00a0that\u00a0tourists\u00a0flock to the Cape\u00a0for vacation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want you to be aware that\u00a0this is a potential vacation party every day,\u201d she said to Foley.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sara Trainer, who lives in Saltworks Condos on South Street was worried about the noise coming 14 hours a day into her backyard. Photo taken April 13, 2026\" orientation=\"horizontal\" class=\"spacer-large\" util-module-path=\"elements\/media\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"presto-h2 wp-block-heading\">A 33,000 square-foot backyard\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>The parcel\u00a0is a long one with frontage on Main Street and\u00a0South Street.\u00a0The\u00a0Dennis Public Library\u00a0on Edwards Street\u00a0is on one\u00a0side,\u00a0and Saltworks Condos\u00a0are\u00a0on the other.\u00a0<\/p>\n<partner-inline util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" class=\"spacer-large\" placement=\"native-article_link\" sizes=\"[[300, 250], [3, 3]]\" min-height=\"250\" fluid=\"\" outstream=\"\"\/>\n<p>Sprawled across\u00a033,000 square feet\u00a0will be a tent-covered main bar, two to three smaller pop-up bars, and a 15-by 15-foot stage.\u00a0Cornhole, giant Jenga and other lawn games will be concentrated in a game zone.\u00a0Plans call for a\u00a0projection screen for watching movies and sporting events\u00a0and independently operated food trucks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<partner-banner util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" fluid=\"\" bottom=\"\" lazy=\"\" class=\"spacer-large\" min-height=\"390\" outstream=\"\"\/>\n<p>There will be no permanent fixtures for Backyard by Foleys. They will be stored in the two-story building on the lot. Eventually the 3,894 square-foot building at the front of the property might hold two commercial tenants, Foley said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"related-link\"><span class=\"exclude-from-newsgate\"><strong style=\"margin-right:3px\">Dennis restaurant opens: <\/strong><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.capecodtimes.com\/story\/news\/2025\/12\/12\/cape-cod-ma-farm-to-table-restaurant-love-farms-leary-pelham-dennis\/87677777007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Love Farms in Dennis is restaurant, farm, live music venue, more. Now open.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Speakers will play background music, and live\u00a0acoustic\u00a0performances\u00a0will be offered.\u00a0A maximum of two musicians at a time will be on stage. Scheduling those performances is still\u00a0a work\u00a0in progress, Foley said. He added that a\u00a0decibel meter sitting 150 feet from the stage will be\u00a0monitored\u00a0to make sure the noise levels\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0exceed town ordinances.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It was the size of the potential crowd size that concerned Mike Wardel, who lives on Edwards Avenue.<\/p>\n<partner-banner util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" fluid=\"\" bottom=\"\" lazy=\"\" class=\"spacer-large\" min-height=\"390\" outstream=\"\"\/>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s room for\u00a0more than\u00a0300 people.\u00a0We have to hold them to that,\u201d he said, referring to Foley Hospitality.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The capacity number is still uncertain, according to Foley.
