{"id":2382609,"date":"2026-04-21T10:08:12","date_gmt":"2026-04-21T10:08:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2382609"},"modified":"2026-04-21T10:08:12","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T10:08:12","slug":"homegrown-music-festival-bridges-the-twin-ports-with-music","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/homegrown-music-festival-bridges-the-twin-ports-with-music\/","title":{"rendered":"Homegrown Music Festival bridges the Twin Ports with music"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>With more than 170 acts at nearly three dozen venues, the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/duluthhomegrown.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Homegrown Music Festival<\/a> is the Twin Ports\u2019 largest music event of the year. <\/p>\n<p>The week-long fest begins Sunday, April 26, with Superior hosting the acts on Thursday night, starting with a proclamation from Mayor Jim Paine. But planners say a single day for Superior isn\u2019t a dis or afternote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not one night for Superior and the rest is all Duluth,\u201d said Kala Moria, a member of Homegrown\u2019s steering committee. \u201cIt\u2019s because we count the Twin Ports as a whole, and each night is in a different neighborhood. Monday night is Lincoln Park night in Duluth, Wednesday night is West Duluth. I\u2019m also the tuba player in the polka punk band Winzige Hosen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RW: Gavin, has your group ever needed a tuba player?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>GSC:<\/strong> We\u2019ve never said, \u201cMan, we could use a tuba on this one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>KM: <\/strong>Very few people have.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RW: How do you decide who plays in Superior and who in Duluth? Gavin, you live in Duluth, but you\u2019re playing in Superior. Did you get the short straw or the long one?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>GSC:<\/strong> Superior nights are really fun. Not trying to pit the cities against each other, but they do have different personalities.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>KM: <\/strong>It\u2019s a lot of the same people on both sides of the bridge. I think Superior just gets a little bit more feisty because the Thursday night shows are close to the weekend.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RW: Superior can get a little feisty on a Monday night! The performances are all short sets in order to fit them all in. Gavin, that means you\u2019re free to enjoy the other shows after your own. I had attended for years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RW: Was it because there\u2019s not a lot of call for tuba players?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>KM: <\/strong>There\u2019s pretty much one band in the area that needs one and I\u2019ve got the monopoly on it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RW: Gavin, you could do something about that. Your quartet could be a quintet.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>KM: <\/strong>I don\u2019t think they need a tuba.
