\u201cI would like to thank Mary and the Voting Committee for honoring me with the Lifetime Achievement Award which I humbly accept,\u201d Visalli said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis award means a great deal to me, not only as a professional, but as a person.\u00a0It represents a lifetime spent searching for truth through a lens.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt the same time, it gives me new energy and a renewed sense of responsibility to keep working, to keep pushing forward, and to continue contributing to the advancement of photojournalism.\u00a0Even at age 94.<\/p>\n
\u201cPhotojournalists stand on the front lines of history,\u201d he said.\u00a0\u201cWe go where events unfold \u2013 sometimes into uncertainty, sometimes into danger \u2013 so others can see, understand and remember,\u201d Vasali said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur work is not just about taking pictures; it is about bearing witness.\u00a0It is about documenting reality with honesty and integrity.\u00a0It is about bringing light into places that might otherwise remain unseen.<\/p>\n
\u201cOver the years, I have learned that photography is not only about equipment or technique, it is about timing, courage and above all, respect for people and their stories.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany times, we work in situations that test us, but we continue because the story matters.\u00a0The people matter.\u00a0The truth matters.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis award does not belong to me alone,\u201d Visalli said. \u201cIt belongs to the colleagues who supported me, the editors who trusted me, the mentors who guided me, and the many individuals who allowed me into their lives, often in their most vulnerable moments.<\/p>\n
\u201cI accept this honor with gratitude and humility and with the promise that I will continue the work,\u201d he said. \u201cAs long as there is a story to tell and at least a little light to follow, I will be there.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are delighted to honor these exceptional members whose work sets the standard for excellence and innovation,\u201d said Mary Engel, APAG\u2019s founder and executive director. \u201cThrough their efforts, they preserve our visual history and inspire future generations to explore photography as a tool for storytelling and cultural expression.\u201d<\/p>\n
Also receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award for Photography was Marilyn Nance, who was honored for her documentary photography chronicling African American cultural life, spiritual traditions, and community resilience.<\/p>\n
\u201cHer deeply humanistic work, spanning four decades, provides an indispensable visual record of Black American experience,\u201d APAG said.<\/p>\n
APAG is a nonprofit organization that helps photography archivists and photographers preserve, organize and promote photography\u2019s heritage through education, advocacy, and recognition.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
