Sir Ian McKellen<\/a> has said there is already enough original art around and no need for Artificial Intelligence<\/a> (AI) to replace or extend it.<\/p>\n The 86-year old stars in upcoming film The Christophers about two siblings who hire a forger to complete their father\u2019s unfinished work in a bid for a healthy inheritance after he dies.<\/p>\n Speaking about the ways AI has increasingly been used to create art or been used to continue artists\u2019 work, including reviving actors on screen after they have died, Sir Ian said it is a tool he does not \u201cpay much attention\u201d to.<\/p>\n Sir Ian McKellen arriving for The Christophers London premiere at the Picturehouse Central (Ian West\/PA) (PA Wire)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n He told the Press Association: \u201cI think there\u2019s enough original art around for us not to need AI, frankly.<\/p>\n \u201cWe care for our art. In this country, we\u2019ve got wonderful galleries, all free, not true in many countries.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s one of the reasons that London<\/a> is so popular for foreigners that they get into the National Gallery for nothing and the Tate Modern.\u201d<\/p>\n Set in London, the upcoming Steven Soderbergh film also stars Baby Reindeer\u2019s Jessica Gunning and Gavin & Stacey co-creator James Corden<\/a> who play the siblings, while the forger is portrayed by actress Michaela Coel<\/a>, best known for creating and starring in the hit sitcom Chewing Gum as well as the Emmy award-winning drama series I May Destroy You.<\/p>\n Sir Ian praised Coel\u2019s \u201cremarkable\u201d and \u201csuberb\u201d acting in the film and praised her ability to listen.<\/p>\n Sir Ian McKellen (left) and Michaela Coel arriving for The Christophers London premiere (Ian West\/PA) (PA Wire)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n He said: \u201cOne of the joys of being in our business is that age is sort of irrelevant, and when I was growing up as a kid, it was always fun to me talking to the older actors.<\/p>\n \u201cWell, now I\u2019m the old actor, and I\u2019m allowed to mix with the youngsters like Michaela.<\/p>\n \u201cShe\u2019s so talented in so many different directions. Her acting is superb in this film.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd if you had to identify what it was that was special about her acting, I\u2019d say her ability to listen.<\/p>\n \u201cAs you watch her listening, you can almost read what\u2019s going on inside the face, the head, although it doesn\u2019t move. He had more energy than me most days.<\/p>\n \u201cI literally was like, \u2018how are you bouncing up and down the stairs?\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cBut you can see he\u2019s so fed by his work and he gives me gratitude for my job.
