Canadian metal maverick, Devin Townsend, recently announced the long-awaited release of his ambitious, orchestral-metal opus The Moth, out May 29 via InsideOutMusic.<\/p>\n
An album over a decade in the making, it existed in the back of Devin Townsend\u2019s mind as his \u201clife\u2019s work\u201d. Then, about six years ago, after an acoustic show in Amsterdam, Townsend was approached by the head of the North Netherlands\u2019 Orchestra and Choir with an offer; and with that moment The Moth stopped being an idea and began to become a reality.<\/p>\n
Today, Devin is pleased to release the video for the track \u201cHome At Night\u201d, a track that shows a more delicate side of The Moth, but one that is no less expansive. Watch the video, produced by longtime collaborator Mike Zimmer, below.<\/p>\n
Devin comments: \u201cFor the second song we release from The Moth, I present \u2018Home At Night\u2019. One of the first pieces written for the project, it came from the difficulty of being away from home with young kids and a family.<\/p>\n
The video reflects my relationship with the more \u201cdrama student\u201d side of my personality, with a healthy dose of the \u201ctrolololo guy\u201d aesthetic \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
Within the arc of The Moth, the song is sung from the point of view of the antagonist on the verge of leaving for battle. The broader story will unfold in time (if people are interested), but at its core, \u2018The Moth\u2019 is a dystopian reflection on transformation\u2014going through the fire to meet ourselves, maintaining equilibrium in difficult moments, and not letting our light fade as the old falls away and the new takes its place.\u201d<\/p>\n
