Ryan Phillippe, the actor and Reese Witherspoon<\/a>‘s ex-husband, has joined the cast of ABC’s “9-1-1: Nashville”<\/a> for its second season.<\/p>\n Season 1 of the show is currently airing, with its season finale set to air in May. The show was renewed in March. According to Variety<\/a>, Phillippe’s role will be that of a “brilliant, iconoclastic detective who moves to Nashville from New York.”<\/p>\n “A seductive bad boy with a past, he\u2019ll stir up all kinds of juicy drama with our first responders while leading an investigation into a mysterious criminal tormenting Nashville on a biblical scale,” Variety continued.<\/p>\n The show’s current cast includes Chris O\u2019Donnell, Jessica Capshaw, Kimberly\u00a0Williams-Paisley<\/a>, LeAnn Rimes<\/a>, Michael Provost, Juani Feliz, Hailey Kilgore and Hunter McVey.<\/p>\n An expansion of ABC and Ryan Murphy’s “9-1-1” franchise, “9-1-1: Nashville” follows the lives of first responders in Nashville, blending large-scale emergency rescues with soapy drama.<\/p>\n Premiering on ABC in October 2025, the Nashville-spinoff is the third series in the franchise following “9-1-1: Lone Star,” which ended in February 2025.<\/p>\n Filmed extensively on location, the show includes Nashville landmarks such as Ascend Amphitheater, Bridgestone Arena, Printer’s Alley, Centennial Park and the Koren Veterans Memorial Bridge.<\/p>\n Prominent Nashville figures who have appeared on the show as themselves include Kane Brown, WKRN meteorologist\u00a0Danielle Breezy<\/a> and Nashville mayor Freddie O’Connell<\/a>.<\/p>\n The series airs at 9 p.m. Thursdays.<\/p>\n Known for his roles in “The Lincoln Lawyer,” “Shooter,” and “Cruel Intentions,” Phillippe is an American actor who rose to fame in the 1990s thanks to his breakthrough role in the soap opera\u00a0“One Life to Live.”<\/p>\n “9-1-1: Nashville” is not Phillippe’s first time starring in an ABC series, as he also appeared in shows \u201cBig Sky\u201d and \u201cSecrets and Lies.”<\/p>\n Ryan Phillippe married Witherspoon, his “Cruel Intentions” co-star in 1999. The couple went on to have two kids together, Ava Elizabeth and Deacon Reese Phillippe, and divorced in 2008. Witherspoon lives in Nashville.<\/p>\n According to Deadline<\/a>, “9-1-1: Nashville” had a volatile start after its promising premiere, as ratings dropped in the fall finale and stayed low into the winter. In January, the spin-off saw an uptick in ratings, a momentum it has been able to sustain.<\/p>\n As of March 5, “9-1-1: Nashville” is TV\u2019s No. 1 new drama in the 18-49 demographic, Deadline reported.<\/p>\n The series premiere drew 3.75 million viewers, according to the TV Ratings Guide<\/a>.
