A Bergen County family worked tirelessly to open a brand-new bar in Dumont, which will highlight drinks, live music, and “really good pizza.”<\/p>\n Kenny Egbert, and his wife and high school sweetheart Angele, closed on the building at 26 West Madison Ave. in November 2025 after about a year of negotiations. Since then, the couple and their three children have been working hard on renovations and hope to open Choir Practice Bar<\/a> sometime this summer.<\/p>\n Here’s what you can expect.<\/p>\n The name “Choir Practice” comes from an old saying in policing, according to Egbert, a retired cop, who said, “At the end of your shift, you want to go out for a drink, you call the wife up and say, ‘We’re going to choir practice.’ So that’s kind of how we came up with the name … but, in addition, we’re doing a lot of live music here too so it kind of plays off of that as well.”<\/p>\n Choir Practice will comprise of three rooms, Egbert said, including a main bar space, which he described as having “traditional, old school, local bar vibes,” a room dedicated to live music, and a third room, which the family is keeping under wraps for now.<\/p>\n As far as food goes, Choir Practice will primarily focus on “really good pizza,” which will be made using original recipes, Egbert said. They will likely have a small bar menu, featuring items like wings and burgers, plus rotating dishes inspired by family and friends.<\/p>\n The branding and some of the bar’s interior designs are personal to Egbert and his family, he said. The logo, which portrays a man sipping on a drink, is inspired by an old photo of Egbert’s dad, who died in 2021. A family heirloom ring has been added to his pinky finger in the logo design.<\/p>\n The wall in the men’s bathroom is adorned with hundreds of old license plates from Egbert’s father’s collection of antiques.<\/p>\n Similar old-school pieces will be found throughout the bar’s interior, according to Egbert, who said that they thrifted and found several neat items, such as an Aerosmith road case that will sit in the music room alongside antique church pews, and a number of stained-glass chandeliers that they bought from Houlihan’s Restaurant after it closed in Hasbrouck Heights.<\/p>\n “I would say the vibe is probably almost like a 70s cocktail lounge feel,” Egbert added.<\/p>\n While the family does not have an exact opening date just yet, Egbert said that they hope to open Choir Practice sometime this summer.<\/p>\n In the meantime, Egbert said that the family has received a ton of positive feedback, adding, “The entire town is like, you know, commenting, reaching out, stopping by. It’s been amazing.
