It shows AI contributions within the song credits section of Spotify\u2019s mobile app. The move comes in response to growing pressure over AI-generated content on streaming platforms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Listeners can see whether AI played a role in certain elements of a track, such as lyrics, vocals, instrumentals, or production. Spotify noted that \u201cAI credits show how AI contributed to the song, not that the entire track is AI-generated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The rollout, which, according to\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link-relationship\" title=\"Companies &gt; Billboard [1,618 articles]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/companies\/billboard\/\">Billboard<\/a>, began with <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link-relationship\" title=\"Companies &gt; DistroKid [140 articles]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/companies\/distrokid\/\">DistroKid<\/a> users, allows labels and distributors to submit AI-use credits that appear in Song Credits on mobile.\u00a0Spotify first outlined its AI credits plans in a September 2025 blog post, noting that it was helping develop a new industry standard for AI disclosures through DDEX alongside distributor partners including DistroKid, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link-relationship\" title=\"Companies &gt; CD Baby [184 articles]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/companies\/downtown-music-holdings\/cd-baby\/\">CD Baby<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link-relationship\" title=\"Companies &gt; Believe [602 articles]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/companies\/believe\/\">Believe<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link-relationship\" title=\"Companies &gt; Empire [210 articles]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/companies\/empire\/\">EMPIRE<\/a> and others. The company updated that post earlier this month to reflect the beta launch.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link-relationship\" title=\"Companies &gt; Apple Music [1,505 articles]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/companies\/apple\/apple-music\/\">Apple Music<\/a> launched what it called <b>\u2018Transparency Tags\u2019<\/b> in March, which it describes as system of disclosure labels that record labels and music distributors can begin applying to content delivered to Apple Music immediately, and will be <b>required<\/b> <b>to use <\/b>when delivering new content in future.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Apple Music\u2019s new tool flags when AI was used in generating a material portion of a sound recording, or a song\u2019s lyrics, among other things.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">But while Apple Music has said its Transparency Tags will be required when delivering new content in future, the tags are currently optional and rely on self-reporting by labels and distributors, as MBW reported in March. Spotify\u2019s AI Credits similarly depend on voluntary artist disclosure. Spotify said: \u201cThe absence of AI credits doesn\u2019t mean AI wasn\u2019t used on a song.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWhere artists have chosen to disclose through their label or distributor, you\u2019ll see credits for specific contributions like vocals, lyrics, or production in Song Credits on mobile.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Spotify<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Elsewhere in the market, <b><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link-relationship\" title=\"Companies &gt; Deezer [630 articles]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/companies\/access-industries\/deezer\/\">Deezer<\/a><\/b> uses its own detection tool to automatically flag tracks it identifies as fully AI-generated. Deezer\u2019s proprietary tool has so far <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link-internal\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/75000-ai-generated-tracks-now-flood-deezer-daily-representing-44-of-all-new-music-uploaded-to-the-platform-says-streamer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">detected<\/a> about <b>75,000<\/b> AI-generated tracks uploaded on its platform per day. That\u2019s equivalent to about <b>2.25 million <\/b>tracks per month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">When Spotify published its <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link-internal\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/spotify-has-deleted-75m-spammy-tracks-as-it-unveils-new-ai-music-policies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AI commitments<\/a> <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link-external\" href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.spotify.com\/2025-09-25\/spotify-strengthens-ai-protections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blog post<\/a> in September 2025, it noted that it had removed more than<strong> 75 million<\/strong> \u201cspammy tracks\u201d from its platform over the past year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Following the latest AI Credits beta rollout, Spotify <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link-external\" href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.spotify.com\/2025-09-25\/spotify-strengthens-ai-protections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">updated<\/a> the September blog post, writing: \u201cStarting today, we\u2019re launching a beta feature that allows artists to share how they\u2019ve used AI in their music. Where artists have chosen to disclose through their label or distributor, you\u2019ll see credits for specific contributions like vocals, lyrics, or production in Song Credits on mobile.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThis is a first step in our long-term commitment to transparency for listeners. Our immediate goal is to give artists who use AI tools creatively a way to share that process with listeners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cBecause we depend on artist disclosure, the absence of a credit doesn\u2019t mean AI wasn\u2019t used. Not all distributors enable artists to disclose yet, but we intend to expand this more broadly over time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Spotify<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Spotify highlighted that: \u201cBecause we depend on artist disclosure, the absence of a credit doesn\u2019t mean AI wasn\u2019t used. Not all distributors enable artists to disclose yet, but we intend to expand this more broadly over time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Spotify acknowledged that \u201cthis isn\u2019t a complete solution on its own.\u201d The streaming giant said: \u201cBuilding a truly comprehensive system is a challenge that requires industry-wide alignment, but we didn\u2019t want to wait to get started. That\u2019s why we\u2019re tackling it on parallel paths: adding this information to our Song Credits, while continuing to help lead the development of a broader industry standard for AI labelling that would give consumers consistent information across all services. We\u2019ll keep evolving our approach as the landscape develops.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Sam Duboff<\/b>, global head of marketing and policy, music business at Spotify, told Billboard\u2019s<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link-external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=KJAwPTxmIFo&amp;source_ve_path=NzY3NTg&amp;embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.billboard.com%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i> On the Record <\/i>podcast<i> <\/i><\/a>in September that \u201cthe starting point has to be shared language through the existing supply chain of music about what the formatting of that will be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Duboff acknowledged the challenge of setting policy amid the era of AI-generated music. \u201cI know it feels like it\u2019s moving fast, but consumption of AI-generated music\u2019s insanely low. We have some time for artists, songwriters, producers to take the lead in figuring out how they want to use these tools.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe don\u2019t want to act like we know where AI music\u2019s headed and exactly every policy and role we need to future-proof for the next two or three years.
