Asked by Chris Ship, ITV\u2019s royal editor, whether he felt the \u201cshackles\u201d had been removed after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex quit as working royals in 2020, he said: \u201cFrom my perspective, we need to feel empowered to speak truth to power. It\u2019s really that simple.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s bad enough in today\u2019s world feeling gagged and saying that you can\u2019t say these things and can\u2019t say that.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything becomes political. I fundamentally disagree with that.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we are witnessing and seeing is a humanitarian catastrophe in multiple parts of the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd people are speaking up and will continue to speak up, and I would encourage more people to do the speaking up.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause the vast majority of people want to see an end to these conflicts and an end to this division.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, he gave a speech in which he told Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, to \u201cstop the war\u201d and urged America to show leadership in supporting Ukraine.<\/p>\n

When asked about the speech, Donald Trump, the US president, said<\/a>: \u201cPrince Harry is not speaking for the UK, that\u2019s for sure. I think I\u2019m speaking for the UK more than Prince Harry.\u201d<\/p>\n

King Charles and Queen Camilla are undertaking a state visit to the US next week.<\/p>\n

The Duke, asked whether he thought his words would make things hard for his father, said: \u201cNo, I don\u2019t think so. Not at all.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cWhat I see, what I hear and what I learn is that the vast majority of people, whether in the UK or anywhere else in the world, want to see proper leadership and they want to see an end to these conflicts.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Duke of Sussex left the working Royal family in 2020. He has undertaken his own overseas trips to Ukraine, Nigeria, Colombia and Australia.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
