CBS<\/a> News anchor Tony Dokoupil<\/a> got dissed in a Vanity Fair story<\/a> filled with putdowns about the anchor from unnamed current and former colleagues.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Dokoupil got the job in the perceived Trumpification of the \u201cTiffany Network\u201d under conservative Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Since Dokoupil took over \u201cCBS Evening News\u201d in January, the ratings have improved a bit over previous co-anchors Maurice DuBois and John Dickerson. But they\u2019re falling of late, according to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Meanwhile, the scrutiny of Dokoupil doesn\u2019t appear to be letting up, at least not in Aidan McLaughlin\u2019s Vanity Fair piece that dropped Thursday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Here are some of the most damning remarks about Dokoupil in the piece.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s deeply lacking in self-awareness,\u201d one current CBS correspondent said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cYou just have to be good eye candy, and he was good eye candy,\u201d said a former producer who worked closely with the newsman. \u201cTony has the biggest case of imposter syndrome out of any anchor or correspondent I\u2019ve ever worked with. And they\u2019re filled with it, because they\u2019re all full of vanity. But Tony knows he wasn\u2019t ready for the chair.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cHe very much was not Bari\u2019s first choice,\u201d one correspondent said. \u201cHe must have been her seventh or eighth choice, because nobody would take the fucking job. I mean, she wanted Bret Baier. She wanted Anderson Cooper<\/a>. She wanted a name, and she does not see Tony Dokoupil as a name. A useful idiot for sure, but not a name.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThis is what happens when you get somebody who\u2019s only ever worked on a morning show, where he just thinks, \u2018Oh yeah, why don\u2019t we dedicate two minutes of this 19-minute broadcast to glazing Marco fucking Rubio?\u2019\u201d a CBS journalist told the magazine. The reference was to a fawning segment<\/a> about the secretary of state, which Dokoupil capped with the line, \u201cMarco Rubio, we salute you. You are the ultimate Florida man<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This came after a shaky start <\/a>in his first newscast in which the host wrestled with technical glitches. He also raised eyebrows by calling President Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s rambling State of the Union screed \u201cextraordinary<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

CBS defended Dokoupil as an \u201cexceptional talent\u201d in a statement to VF: \u201cWhile Vanity Fair<\/em>\u2019s unnamed sources continue to peddle old and false rumors, that won\u2019t stop Tony and his team from doing what they do best: reporting the news and telling the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
