The duke also referred to his mother\u2019s trip to Angola in 1997 to campaign against landmines.<\/p>\n
During her visit, Diana said: \u201cI am not a political figure. I am a humanitarian figure and always have been and always will be.\u201d<\/p>\n
On Friday, Harry told ITV News: \u201cIt\u2019s very, very sad because nearly 30 years ago since my mother was in Angola here we are again in a new conflict.\u201d<\/p>\n
It was a rare input on global matters from the duke when he implored the US to \u201chonour its international treaty obligations\u201d in its \u201cenduring role in global security\u201d during his speech in Kyiv.<\/p>\n
Responding, Mr Trump said: \u201cI know one thing, Prince Harry is not speaking for the UK, that\u2019s for sure. I think I am speaking for the UK more than Prince Harry.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I appreciate his advice very much.\u201d<\/p>\n
But Harry has said people need to \u201cspeak up\u201d.<\/p>\n
He told ITV News: \u201cAs a global community we need to feel empowered to be able to speak truth to power. It\u2019s really that simple.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s bad enough in today\u2019s world feeling gagged and saying that you can\u2019t say these things and can\u2019t say that and everything becomes political. I fundamentally disagree with that.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat we are witnessing and what we are seeing is a humanitarian catastrophe in multiple parts of the world and people are speaking up and people will continue to speak up and I would encourage more people to do the speaking up.\u201d<\/p>\n
Harry\u2019s unannounced visit \u2013 his third trip to Ukraine since the war began in 2022 \u2013 comes days after he finished a tour to Australia with his wife, the Duchess of Sussex.<\/p>\n
He stopped in the UK on his journey to Ukraine, but only to transit through and he did not leave airside.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
