King Charles<\/a>, Prince William<\/a> and Kate Middleton<\/a> may live a life of luxury, but there\u2019s one thing 34million Britons have over the Royal Family:<\/a> the keys to their own vehicles. According to Royal biographer Dickie Arbiter, Royals\u2019 tend not to own the cars they use on official engagements, instead relying on a commercial leasing scheme for transport.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Speaking exclusively Express.co.uk, Dickie said: \u201cThey don’t actually own cars, they lease them. You\u2019ll probably find that most people lease cars today because it’s just an expense that isn\u2019t worth their while to actually own it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Dickie added: \u201cA lot is dependent on the vehicle available, the cost of leasing, the leasing scheme, how long.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Leasing ensures the Royals have access to some of the latest and most reliable models, while avoiding the high depreciation costs that come with owning a car. Meanwhile, car companies are known to provide vehicles to the Royal Family, wth firms keen to associate themselves with high-profile events.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The then Prince of Wales is understood to have travelled around 3,000 miles in the car before handing it back to the manufacturer in 2020. The Monarch has continued his love of EVs, now leasing a stunning Lotus Eletre electric SUV valued at an eye-watering \u00a3160,000.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

However, Dickie stressed that the Royal Family makes sure to \u201cwork the economies extremely well\u201d to ensure they get value for money with whatever model they want to lease.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Lancaster Insurance<\/a> has previously explained that the monarchy usually only leases its cars, giving them back to manufacturers after a couple of years on the road.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Meanwhile, a palace spokesperson has previously stressed that state cars housed at the royal mews were \u201cpredominantly owned by the sovereign in right of the crown or are leased\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
