All Them Witches- Ben McLeod (guitarist), Charles Michael Parks, Jr. (bass\/vocals), Christian Powers (drums), and Allan Van Cleave (keys)- share their new song and music video for \u2018The Welterweight,\u2019 inspired by Parks\u2019 grandfather, a boxing champion. \u201cI wrote \u2018The Welterweight\u2019 and \u2018Saturn Song\u2019 around the same time.\u201d Parks shared.<\/p>\n
When I\u2019m home, I mainly play acoustic guitar. It\u2019s easier for songwriting but translating it to bass later is weird. You spend a lot of time getting these rhythms with finger-picking, and you end up cutting them out when you bring in other musicians. I\u2019ve heard the word \u2018Welterweight\u2019 my whole life. My grandfather was a Welterweight boxing champion in Alabama. <\/p>\n
This title has been ringing in my head for a long time, and it found its way to a song.\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s our ballad, and it\u2019s an awesome well-written song from Parks.\u201d McLeod adds. \u201cEddie was trying to get Allan to do a piano intro, but Allan was playing too well because he\u2019s classically trained.
