Prince Harry and Meghan Markle\u2019s international profile and commercial ventures have led royal biographer Tom Bower to claim they could lose their official titles.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, 41 and 44, landed in Australia last week for a tightly packed itinerary across Melbourne,\u00a0Canberra\u00a0and Sydney, taking part in a mix of paid appearances and charitable engagements.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mr Bower said the Australia trip was a desperate bid to commercialise and make money but would have negative long-term consequences.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe King and Prince William will realise that they can have absolutely nothing to do with them if they dare come to England in July, because they use every opportunity to exploit their royal status to earn money,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0done is taken them one step closer to being stripped of their titles.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
He suggested that any formal decision would come under the next generation of the monarchy.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen William\u2019s King, I think he will strip them of their titles, because it\u2019s hugely damaging to the Royal Family,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt might look spiteful, but\u00a0the majority of\u00a0Britons would support it.\u00a0They\u2019re\u00a0sick to death of seeing Harry and Meghan exploit their royal titles.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite the high-profile nature of the visit, a new poll suggests it did little to win over the public.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Research conducted by Roy Morgan and shared by Channel 7 found that while millions of Australians were aware of the couple’s visit, a staggering 81 per cent said it did not improve their opinion of them.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The survey, which canvassed 1,767 Australians aged 18 and over, also revealed deep scepticism about Harry’s standing within the Royal Family.\u00a0<\/p>\n
An overwhelming 87 per cent of respondents said the visit would\u00a0not help repair his relationship with his father, King Charles III, while 51 per cent said they did not believe the late Queen would have approved of the trip “given Harry stepped back as a working royal”.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mr\u00a0Bower also raised questions about how the Royal Family may respond to future visits by Harry to the UK.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0think Charles will even meet Harry in July, because\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0far too dangerous. But who knows what can happen between now and then,\u201d\u00a0he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Despite the criticism, he acknowledged reconciliation cannot be ruled out.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, there must be hope, but\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0not going to be done on Harry\u2019s terms,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Looking ahead, Bower questioned whether the Sussexes\u2019 current model can last.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cNo and\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0what makes them so desperate,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is nothing to Meghan other than her royal marriage and that was the problem with her series \u2013 she\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0have a mystery, a magic, which attracts huge audiences and therefore there are very few people who want to identify with her.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cHarry is just a sad-case, he just regurgitates his mental-health problems the whole time.\u201d<\/p>\n
His comments come after Harry and Meghan dismissed his latest book;\u00a0Betrayal: Power,\u00a0Deceit\u00a0and the Fight for the Future of the Royal\u00a0Family,\u00a0as\u00a0\u201cderanged conspiracy\u201d,\u00a0rejecting his portrayal of their conduct and motives.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Harry and Meghan have previously said\u00a0Mr\u00a0Bower has \u201cmade a career out of constructing ever more elaborate theories about people he does not know and has never met.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
They continued their criticism of Mr Bower saying: \u201cThose interested in facts will look elsewhere; those seeking deranged conspiracy and melodrama know exactly where to find him\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mr Bower argues the Sussexes\u2019 response shows fragility.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0like criticism; the Sussexes like to control the narrative,\u201d he said\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is the problem with them \u2013 unlike other members of the Royal Family, they are hypersensitive about people criticising their conduct and I am a leading critic.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
