Lainey Wilson didn\u2019t seem too worried about the high winds that temporarily shut down Stagecoach<\/a> on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

Headlining the festival\u2019s main stage after an hour-long delay \u2014 during which fans were ordered to evacuate Indio\u2019s Empire Polo Club before being allowed back in \u2014 Wilson looked out at the crowd in front of her and said of the unplanned break: \u201cI hope y\u2019all sat in your cars and drank some tequila.\u201d<\/p>\n

The whoops across the field suggested that might\u2019ve been what happened.<\/p>\n

Only the third woman to headline Stagecoach in the past five years, Wilson offered a tight, punchy showcase of the riff-heavy country-rock that\u2019s made her one of Nashville\u2019s biggest stars (after a decade-long come-up<\/a> in which she\u2019s said she lived in a camper trailer).<\/p>\n

\u201cCan\u2019t Sit Still\u201d and \u201cWildflowers and Wild Horses\u201d were swaggering and Stones-y; \u201cCountry\u2019s Cool Again\u201d rode a funky down-home groove. To fill the big stage \u2014 it evoked a kind of desert oasis with a glittering horseshoe and a couple of prop cacti \u2014 Wilson brought along a horn section and background singers who turned \u201cDreamcatcher\u201d into a psychedelic roots-soul fantasia.<\/p>\n

Not long into the show, Wilson welcomed Little Big Town and Riley Green for an appealingly sloppy rendition \u2014 complete with drinks in plastic cups \u2014 of Merle Haggard\u2019s \u201cI Think I\u2019ll Just Stay Here and Drink.\u201d Then she let Green, whose scheduled performance was scotched because of the wind, stick around to do his \u201cI Wish Grandpas Never Died.\u201d (Also called off Saturday was Journey\u2019s set on the Mustang stage.)<\/p>\n

Wilson\u2019s only other guest was the little girl she ushered onstage and pronounced \u201ccowgirl of the night\u201d during \u201cThings a Man Oughta Know.\u201d After that came the singer\u2019s dreamiest hit, \u201cSomewhere Over Laredo,\u201d and an especially sultry take on \u201cWatermelon Moonshine,\u201d the nostalgia-drunk love song from 2023 that\u2019s probably still her finest moment.<\/p>\n
