Clay Aiken<\/a>‘s son just celebrated a major milestone.<\/p>\nOn Monday, April 27, the American Idol <\/em>alum, 47, shared a picture on his Instagram Stories of his 17-year-old son, Parker, on his way to his senior prom. In the snap, the teen smiled in a black suit with a yellow tie as he stood next to his prom date, who coordinated in a bright yellow dress.<\/p>\n“Baby’s first prom night,” the doting dad wrote underneath the picture, adding Donna Lewis’ song “I Love You Always Forever” to the post.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\nClay Aiken’s son Parker and his date

The American Idol<\/em><\/a> runner-up and his best friend, music producer Jaymes Foster, welcomed Parker in August 2008. Though Aiken and Foster were not romantically linked, they made plans to raise their son together, and she became pregnant through in vitro fertilization.<\/p>\nAfter welcoming his son, the \u201cInvisible\u201d singer publicly came out as gay in a cover story for PEOPLE in September 2008. \u201cIt was the first decision I made as a father,” he explained. “I cannot raise a child to lie or to hide things. I wasn\u2019t raised that way, and I\u2019m not going to raise a child to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Aiken said that he and Foster would raise their son in an environment that was \u201caccepting and allowing him to be happy.\u201d He added, “No matter what the situation you\u2019re in, if you\u2019re raised in a loving environment, that\u2019s the most important thing.\u201d<\/p>\n
