For Nolan, \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d seemed like a foundational piece that deserved to be done on the biggest possible scale, with all the resources modern Hollywood had to offer.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a massive amount of pressure,\u201d Nolan said. \u201cAnyone taking on \u2018The Odyssey\u2019 is taking on the hopes and dreams of people for epic movies everywhere and that comes with a huge responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

A lot of power recently has shifted to PG-rated offerings. This summer has \u201cToy Story 5\u201d (June 19), \u201cMinions & Monsters\u201d (July 1), a live-action \u201cMoana\u201d (July 10) and \u201cThe Sheep Detectives\u201d (May 8).<\/p>\n
Horror fans can find franchises like \u201cEvil Dead Burn\u201d (July 10) and unnerving indies like \u201cLeviticus\u201d (June 19) and a new Jane Schoenbrun, \u201cTeenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma\u201d (Aug. 7).<\/p>\n
There are smaller gems too, including Daniel Roher\u2019s \u201cTuner\u201d and Boots Riley\u2019s colorful shoplifting movie \u201cI Love Boosters,\u201d (both May 22), Olivia Wilde\u2019s chamber dramedy \u201cThe Invite\u201d (June 26) and the wholesomely raunchy comedy \u201cGail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass\u201d (July 10).<\/p>\n
What key figures of 2026 summer movies are saying<\/strong><\/p>\nChristopher Nolan on \u2018The Odyssey\u2019 runtime: \u201cOne of the things that\u2019s really important to me is to be showing the film wherever possible on IMAX film, projecting the format, because we shot the entire movie on IMAX film, and the longest we\u2019ve ever been able to get onto the IMAX projector is three hours. So we know it\u2019s less than three hours. I can say the film is shorter than \u2018Oppenheimer.\u2019 It\u2019s still an epic, it\u2019s an epic film as the subject matter demands, but it is shorter.\u201d<\/p>\n
