NBCU Photo Bank<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n Friends<\/em><\/a> icon Lisa Kudrow<\/strong><\/a> is sharing the darker side of starring on the hit sitcom.<\/p>\n In a recent interview with The Times of London<\/em><\/a>, Kudrow, 62, said that the classic 1990s comedy \u201ccaptured a kind of innocence that maybe a younger generation has never got to experience,\u201d but it wasn\u2019t all laughter behind the scenes.<\/p>\n \u201cOh no, there was definitely mean stuff going on behind the scenes,\u201d said Kudrow, who played Phoebe Buffay in all 10 seasons of Friends<\/em>, starring alongside Courteney Cox<\/strong>, Jennifer Aniston<\/strong>, David Scwhimmer<\/strong>, Matt LeBlanc<\/strong> and the late Matthew Perry<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The Emmy winner recalled that the show\u2019s writers\u2019 room was largely dominated by men.<\/p>\n Everything the Friends Cast Has Said About Their Real-Life Relationship With Jennifer Aniston<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cDon\u2019t forget we were recording in front of a live audience of 400, and if you messed up one of these writers\u2019 lines or it didn\u2019t get the perfect response, they could be like, \u2018Can\u2019t the bitch f***ing read? She\u2019s not even trying. She f***ed up my line,\u2019\u201d Kudrow said.<\/p>\n She continued, \u201cAnd we know that back in the room the guys would be up late discussing their sexual fantasies about Jennifer and Courteney. It was intense.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cOh, it could be brutal, but these guys \u2014 and it was mostly men in there \u2014 were sitting up until 3 a.m. trying to write the show so my attitude was, \u2018Say what you like about me behind my back because then it doesn\u2019t matter,\u2019\u201d Kudrow added.<\/p>\n NBCU Photo Bank<\/span><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n Earlier this month, Kudrow looked back at her time on Friends<\/em>, revealing that she was often referred to as the \u201csixth Friend,\u201d<\/a> claiming her costars\u2019 Hollywood careers took off before hers did.<\/p>\n \u201cNobody cared about me,\u201d she said of the show\u2019s early success in an interview with the U.K.\u2019s Independent<\/em>. \u201cThere were certain parts of [my talent agency] that just referred to me as \u2018the sixth Friend.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThere was no vision for me and no expectations about the kind of career I could have,\u201d she said. \u201cThere was just, like, \u2018Boy, is she lucky she got on that show.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Despite being the first Friends<\/em> cast member to win an Emmy in 1998, Kudrow said she largely booked independent movies until she landed a hit with Analyze This<\/em>, the 1999 comedy starring Robert De Niro<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>
