Dylan Carter, a South Carolina musician who competed on \u201cThe Voice<\/a>\u201d in 2023, has died at age 24. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n WCDB News 2, a South Carolina NBC affiliate, confirmed Monday<\/a> that Carter had been involved in a single-vehicle crash in Colleton County at around 11:22 p.m. on Saturday. Local law enforcement officials told People<\/a> that Carter\u2019s car had veered off the road and struck a utility before overturning, though the collision remains under investigation. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Carter was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, they said. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n The Local Voice, a nonprofit group for women with cancer co-founded by Carter, honored his memory with a tribute on their Facebook page<\/a> late Monday. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cDylan was the heart of what we do. He believed every voice matters and lived that every day,\u201d the group\u2019s post read. \u201cThrough his music, his kindness, and his smile, he brought people together and made everyone feel seen.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n It continued: \u201cWe are heartbroken, but find comfort knowing he is in heaven with his mother. We are so grateful for Dylan, for the love he gave this community, and for the impact he leaves behind. We will carry his light forward and continue this mission in his honor.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Carter had been slated to perform<\/a> Monday evening in Moncks Corner, South Carolina as part of its \u201cMusic on Main\u201d event. The town\u2019s mayor, Thomas Hamilton Jr., said his family was \u201cheartbroken\u201d by the news. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cHe was much more to our family than an entertainer,\u201d Hamilton wrote on Facebook<\/a>, \u201che was our friend and we are deeply saddened.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Among those to also share their condolences was Reba McEntire<\/a>, who coached Carter on Season 24 of \u201cThe Voice.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cWe will miss Dylan so much. He was a brilliant, kind and talented young man who brought a huge ray of sunshine to The Voice,\u201d the country legend wrote on her Instagram stories, per Billboard<\/a>. \u201cRest in peace, my dear friend.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Carter rose to prominence at 20 years old, when he auditioned for \u201cThe Voice\u201d with a rendition of Whitney Houston\u2019s \u201cI Look to You\u201d<\/a> that he dedicated to his late mother, Julie. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Shortly after his elimination from the competition series, Carter acknowledged he felt \u201cvery defeated,\u201d but added: \u201cIt did not take me long to realize that I actually didn\u2019t lose anything, instead I gained EVERYTHING!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI came to The Voice unsure of myself, unsure of my future, and still grieving the loss of my mom,\u201d he wrote on Instagram<\/a>. \u201cI left LA with confidence in myself and my future, with a sure purpose as to why I was put on this Earth, and with peace of mind moving on from my mom\u2019s death.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n In addition to his music career, Carter worked as a realtor and was the co-owner of Sunny Days RV & Campground<\/a>, located near South Carolina\u2019s Lake Marion. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
