The cast of Season 4 of The White Lotus<\/em> just checked in. Mike White\u2019s vacation-set series is now officially filming in France, HBO announced on April 15. However, there\u2019s already been a casting shake-up.<\/p>\n The White Lotus <\/em>takes its name from the fictional luxury hotel chain, which, in the universe of the show, has outposts across the globe. Unfortunately for the vacationers staying at these ritzy hotels (which, prior to Season 4, were actually Four Seasons properties<\/a>), each season concluded with at least one person dead \u2014 a moment teased in the opening episode before flashing back one week earlier.<\/p>\n Now, Season 4\u2019s star-studded cast includes Heather Graham and Rosie Perez<\/a> \u2014 and, once again, it\u2019s anyone\u2019s guess as to who will end up dead, presuming that The White Lotus <\/em>continues its morbid pattern.<\/p>\n One person who we can cross off the list of potential dead bodies? Helena Bonham Carter, who was originally announced to join the cast back in January. She exited the series four days into filming<\/a>. Now, Laura Dern is stepping in, but she won\u2019t play the exact part Carter is stepping out of: Instead, Variety<\/a> reports, she is playing a new character White created in Carter\u2019s absence.<\/p>\n The first season of The White Lotus<\/em> followed guests at a luxury resort in Hawaii\u00a0\u2014 where a hotel employee was accidentally killed by a guest \u2014\u00a0before moving to Sicily for its sophomore season, which saw the death of a fan favorite. The most recent season, set in Thailand, ended with the show\u2019s biggest bloodbath yet.<\/p>\n With a new location and a new mystery ahead, here\u2019s what we know about The White Lotus <\/em>Season 4.<\/p>\n Already dusting off your passport to live like the vacationers on The White Lotus<\/em>? This season, the guests are heading to the C\u00f4te d’Azur, aka the French Riviera: specifically, Cannes, Saint-Tropez and Monaco. While Paris won\u2019t be a part of the storyline, filming will also take place in the city, HBO confirmed in a press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n Looking to book the exact hotels as the characters? HBO said that the Airelles Ch\u00e2teau de la Messardi\u00e8re will be a stand-in for the White Lotus du Cap, while the H\u00f4tel Martinez will be the White Lotus Cannes.<\/p>\n Right now, the answer is\u2026 not much! However, according to HBO, the Cannes Film Festival<\/a> \u2014\u00a0the most prestigious film event of the year \u2014\u00a0will be central to the plot. Since the festival is invitation-only, it\u2019s possible that hotel guests will be in the film business or covering the festival as press.<\/p>\n In a behind-the-scenes interview with White following the eighth episode of Season 3, the creator teased<\/a>: \u201cFor the fourth season I want to get a little bit out of the ‘crashing waves of rocks’ vernacular, but there\u2019s always more room for more murders at the White Lotus hotels.\u201d<\/p>\n The White Lotus <\/em>cast is always stacked, and this season is no exception. Here\u2019s who is arriving at the French Riviera.<\/p>\n While Carter has not spoken about why she left the series days into filming, it seems that there was a disconnect between her performance and the part as written.<\/p>\n \u201cWith filming just underway on season four of The White Lotus<\/em>, it had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set,\u201d an HBO spokesperson said in a statement to E! News<\/a> on April 24. \u201cThe role has subsequently been rethought, is being rewritten and will be recast in the coming weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n The report also said that White and the rest of the team hope to work with the \u201clegendary actress\u201d in the future.<\/p>\n Carter\u2019s exit left room for the new character, played by Dern, who previously worked with White on the HBO show Enlightened<\/em>. She also previously starred in HBO series Big Little Lies<\/em><\/a>, <\/em>which is returning for a long-awaited Season 3.<\/p>\n Thus far, only three cast members have appeared in more than one season of the show, and all of them were connected to the story line surrounding Jennifer Coolidge\u2019s wealthy socialite, Tanya. The character appeared in Season 1 and Season 2 before dying at the end of the latter.<\/p>\n Natasha Rothwell first appeared as spa manager Belinda in Season 1, and returned in Season 3, set in Thailand. There, she crossed paths with Tanya\u2019s very shady husband, Greg \u2014 played by Jon Gries \u2014 who has appeared in all three seasons. Belinda\u2019s storyline ended with her choosing not to pursue justice for Tanya \u2014 who died after Greg put a hit on her \u2014 and instead accepted $5 million from Greg in exchange for her silence on the matter.<\/p>\n So far, there\u2019s no confirmation that anyone will return, although, in April 2025, Rothwell joked to the Hollywood Reporter<\/a> ahead of the Season 3 finale that Gries was like a \u201cbarnacle\u201d who would return every season. Gries added: \u201cYes, I would love to come back. But does the book on Greg seem like it\u2019s complete?
