Charles III made history when be became the first British King
\nto address Congress.<\/p>\n
King Charles and Queen Camilla were given a standing ovation as
\nthey entered for this important moment.<\/p>\n
The King spoke passionately about peace, democracy and shared
\nvalues and made many references to the history of both Britain and
\nthe United States.<\/p>\n
He also referred several times to his own family, noting that
\nhis grandfather, George VI, had been the first British king to
\nvisit the United States, along \u201dwith my beloved Grandmother, Queen
\nElizabeth The Queen Mother\u201d. And he made reference to the first
\nBritish Monarch to address Congress, his mother, Queen Elizabeth
\nII, saying she, too, had been \u201dafforded this signal honour and
\nsimilarly spoke under the watchful eye of the Statue of Freedom
\nabove us.\u201d<\/p>\n
There were jokes, too, with The King noting that the Declaration
\nof Independence happened 250 years ago, adding \u201dor, as we say in
\nthe United Kingdom, just the other day\u201d.<\/p>\n
And he referred to faith, saying \u201dhaving devoted a large part of
\nmy life to interfaith relationships and greater understanding, it
\nis that faith in the triumph of light over darkness which I have
\nfound confirmed countless times.\u201d<\/p>\n
