Bill Maher<\/a> has a theory on why he\u2019s never garnered much love from the Television Academy \u2015 although whether viewers will buy it is questionable. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n On Monday\u2019s episode of his \u201cClub Random\u201d podcast<\/a>, Maher suggested he\u2019d been a victim of \u201csoft canceling\u201d in his career, which could explain why he\u2019s been nominated for an Emmy Award a total of 41 times, but only won once. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cThere are different gradations of it. There\u2019s soft canceling. I would say I\u2019ve had some of that happen to me,\u201d Maher said while in conversation with actor and comedian David Cross<\/a>. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n When Cross asked what he meant, Maher added: \u201cSoft canceling would be like, \u2018We will never give you an Emmy,\u2019 even though plainly I\u2019ve deserved them.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
