Country star Ashley Cooke has opened up about the “very scary” heart condition that she has been diagnosed with, which has the potential to kill her in an instant.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

While the 28-year-old singer had a legendary year for her music<\/a> career, she also shared that she received concerning health news. In a TikTok<\/a> post, Ashley revealed that she was diagnosed with Brugada syndrome last summer. This is a rare inherited heart rhythm disorder that causes dangerous irregular heartbeats.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

After her initial announcement, Ashley later opened up more about the condition and what she has learned about it so far. In an interview with Taste of Country<\/a>, the Your Place hitmaker shared, “The crazy part is, it doesn’t really impact anything about my daily life.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She continued, “That’s the scary part of Brugada syndrome. It just feels like a ghost around you. Because there are no warning signs, no symptoms. It’s just one of those things where all of a sudden one day, this certain thing in your heart can just stop, and you’re just gone.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Florida<\/a> native explained that before she was diagnosed with the condition, she underwent multiple electrocardiogram (EKG) procedures. She said that two of these were inconclusive, and during the third procedure, doctors were able to confirm that she had Brugada syndrome.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Opening up about her reaction to the diagnosis, Ashley told the news outlet, “It’s terrifying. It doesn’t impact anything that I do, or how I function, until one day, it may just could.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Ashley also shared that several of her relatives on her father’s side had passed away unexpectedly before age 37 due to the same condition. In an interview with E! News,<\/a> Ashley revealed, “A lot of people on my dad\u2019s side, they\u2019ve unfortunately \u2014 out of nowhere, without even knowing they had it \u2014 had a cardiac episode and they were gone.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She added, “There\u2019s really nothing to do or not do about it. It\u2019s just something I\u2019m living with. It\u2019s just one of those things that I have, and I just know that could be something that takes me someday.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

And while this is a difficult diagnosis to come to terms with, Ashley has maintained an optimistic outlook despite it all, sharing that she plans to live a “long, happy, healthy life.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This year, Ashley’s music career continues to flourish and she has already performed to a jam-packed crowd at the Tortuga Music Festival in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She also has plenty of other festivals and shows to look forward to in the coming months, including performances at the PBR World Finals in Las Vegas, ACM Next Wave, CMA Fest, and Hoofbeat.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
