Taylor Swift admitted that there are \u201ccorners\u201d of her fanbase that <\/span>take things to an \u201cextreme place\u201d by over-speculating about the subjects of her songs.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cThere\u2019s nothing I can do about that. There\u2019s people who are gonna try to, like, do detective work, figure out the details \u2014 \u2018Who is that about? What is this?\u2019\u201d she said in a video interview with The New York Times<\/a> published Tuesday, in which she was named one of the 30 greatest living American songwriters.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n The \u201cCruel Summer\u201d singer said that it \u201cgets a little bit weird\u201d when her fans treat her lyrics like a \u201cpaternity test.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cLike, \u2018This song\u2019s about that person,\u2019\u201d she said, parroting curiosity from her overzealous fans. \u201c[And] I\u2019m like, \u2018That dude didn\u2019t write the song, I did.\u2019\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n But that\u2019s part of being a celebrity, Swift acknowledged.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cYou have to hold tight to your perception of your art and your relationship with it, and then you just kind of have to like [mimics blowing something out of her hand] \u2018There it goes, hope you like it. If you don\u2019t now, hope you do in five years. And if you never do, then I was doing it for me anyway,\u2019\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n But Swift says she welcomes criticism, as it\u2019s \u201cbeen a huge fuel\u201d and \u201ca jumping-off point\u201d for her songwriting career. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cThere are so many songs in my career that would not exist \u2014 like \u2018Blank Space\u2019 would not exist if I hadn\u2019t had people being like, \u2018Here\u2019s a slideshow of all her boyfriends,\u2018\u201d she added, sarcastically mimicking her critics. \u201cAnd then \u2018Anti-Hero\u2019 is a song that I\u2019m so proud of still, like that song doesn\u2019t exist if I don\u2019t get criticized for every aspect of my personality that people have a problem with or whatever.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
