At the White House this morning, President Donald Trump delivered remarks to welcome King Charles and Queen Camilla, and spoke about his own family background and admiration for the royal family. \u201cHe\u2019s a very elegant man,\u201d Trump said of King Charles, and praising his \u201cbeautiful accent.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump also spoke about his mother<\/a>, Mary MacLeod, who was a Scottish immigrant born on the Isle of Lewis. \u201cMy mother, I just see it so clearly, she loved the royal family, and she loved the Queen,\u201d he said, \u201cAny time the Queen was involved in a ceremony…my mother would be glued to the television. And she\u2019d say, \u2018look Donald, look how beautiful that is\u2019. She really did love the family. I also remember her saying very clearly…\u2018Charles look, young Charles, he\u2019s so cute.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump then turned to the King, who was seated behind him to the left, to mouth \u201cmy mother,\u201d before adding, \u201cMy mother had a crush on Charles. Can you believe it?\u201d He said, \u201cI wonder what she\u2019s thinking right now.\u201d This morning, Trump shared an article stating he and the King were distant cousins, writing<\/a>, \u201cI\u2019ve always wanted to live in Buckingham Palace!!!\u201d<\/p>\n

Among the attendees this morning included Vice President JD Vance, Second Lady Usha Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, and British Ambassador Christian Turner.<\/p>\n

Later today, King Charles is set to address a joint session of Congress; Trump will not be in attendance, though he said he wanted to go.<\/p>\n
