King Charles and Queen Camilla will visit the Big Apple for a whirlwind tour Wednesday \u2014 marking the first time the pair has been in the five boroughs in 19 years.<\/p>\n
The royals will pay their respects at downtown\u2019s 9\/11 Memorial & Museum before popping into the New York Public Library in Midtown and a community center in Harlem as part of their daylong tour of Manhattan. Obtained by the NY Post<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n Here\u2019s a look back on recent trips by the royal family to Gotham.<\/p>\n Prince Charles\u2019 eldest son and daughter-in-law<\/a> made the most recent royal visit to the Big Apple on behalf of the Crown.<\/p>\n Then known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the pair had a jam-packed December 2014 trip \u2014 while Kate was five months pregnant with Princess Charlotte.<\/p>\n The young couple sat courtside at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn with New York City music royalty Beyonce and Jay-Z to watch the NBA\u2019s Nets lose to the Cleveland Cavaliers.<\/p>\n Earlier in the day, the couple split so that Kate could join then-Big Apple First Lady Chirlane McCray on a visit to a Harlem Children\u2019s Center, while William chatted with President Barack Obama in Midtown.<\/p>\n The pair also stopped by the 9\/11 memorial and capped off the trip with an appearance at the annual Met Gala in Manhattan.<\/p>\n Queen Elizabeth was the last monarch to visit the Big Apple when she stopped over in 2010. Elizabeth was joined at the time by then-Mayor Michael Bloomberg and then-Gov. David Paterson.<\/p>\n While at the hallowed ground, she shook hands with the families of the first responders who lost their loved ones in the terror attack.<\/p>\n Earlier that day, Queen Elizabeth spoke in front of the United Nations and addressed its General Assembly for the first time since her first appearance there 53 years earlier.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen people in 53 years from now look back on us, they will doubtless view many of our practices as old-fashioned,\u201d she said at the time. \u201cBut it is my hope that, when judged by future generations, our willingness to take a lead \u2026 will stand the test of time.\u201d<\/p>\n Charles and Camilla last visited the Big Apple in 2007.
