Celebrity stylist Leslie Fremar<\/strong> revealed that she\u2019s the inspiration behind The Devil Wears Prada<\/a>\u2019s Emily Charlton.<\/p>\n

Fremar opened up about learning that the character Emily was based on her while chatting with Chloe Malle<\/strong> during a Tuesday, April 28, episode of Vogue\u2019s \u201cRun-Through\u201d podcast<\/a>. \u201cI am Emily,\u201d she said while discussing the 2003 book by Lauren Weisberger<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

She recalled hiring and working with Weisberger, 49, and telling her \u201ca million girls would kill for the job,\u201d which was famously turned into a quote in the 2006 movie, starring Meryl Streep<\/strong>, Anne Hathaway<\/strong> and Emily Blunt<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was definitely my line because I actually really believed that, and I knew that she didn\u2019t necessarily wanna be there,\u201d Fremar added.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAnne Hathaway and Emily Blunt\u2019s The Devil Wears Prada characters didn\u2019t get off to a good start in the 2006 film, but off camera their connection was undeniable. \u201cDid we meet before the table read?\u201d Blunt, who portrayed lead assistant Emily in the fashion-themed movie, asked Hathaway, 41, during their reunion for the Wednesday, December [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Weisberger apparently sent an early copy of the book to Anna Wintour<\/strong>, who was believed to be the inspiration behind the wildly successful yet icy Runway magazine editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly in the book, played by Streep, 76, in the film. Fremar didn\u2019t learn about the book<\/a> until after she stopped working at Vogue.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got a call from Anna\u2019s office saying that she wanted to see me. I was petrified,\u201d she recalled. \u201c[Wintour] said, \u2018Who\u2019s Lauren Weisberger? And I said, \u2018She was your junior assistant. She was only here for 8 months. And she\u2019s like, \u2018Well, she wrote a book about us, and you\u2019re worse than me.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to ask more questions, but you can\u2019t really ask her that many questions,\u201d Fremar continued. \u201cI was like, \u2018OK?\u2019 She let me read it. It was actually quite mean and I think an editor came in and really softened it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fremar said the original copy felt \u201cquite dark\u201d and didn\u2019t have a \u201clightness to it,\u201d which the final copy did. \u201cI found that quite hurtful,\u201d she said. \u201cI remember feeling like it was a betrayal at the time. People weren\u2019t very public about their jobs. You just didn\u2019t talk about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt just felt like this exposure,\u201d Fremar said. \u201cEven though someone obviously advised her to make it fiction, it was really based off of a lot of things that, you know, I lived, she lived.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fremar immediately knew the book was about herself because Weisberger \u201cdidn\u2019t really socialize with anyone else\u201d at Vogue. \u201cI think her experience was really with me and with Anna,\u201d she explained, noting that she and Weisberger have not seen each other in 20 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it would be very awkward,\u201d Fremar said. \u201cI don\u2019t hold a grudge towards her but it became something that \u2014 there\u2019s nothing to be said.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tEmily Blunt\u2018s career went stratospheric after she starred as Miranda Priestly\u2019s snarky assistant Emily in The Devil Wears Prada, but the actress\u2019 two young daughters had some interesting thoughts about the character. \u201cThey thought I was the meanest person they\u2019ve ever met,\u201d the Fall Guy actress told Page Six. Blunt has two children with her [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As for what was fiction and not, Fremar shared that Weisberger was indeed \u201ca fish out of water\u201d in the office. \u201cI think she felt the tasks at hand were below her. I think the fashion part of it did not interest her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fremar also actually did change her shoes when Wintour arrived at the office and changed out of her Birkenstocks and into heels, which Wintour caught her for.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fiction part of the book is this character turns into this superstar and I did not witness that,\u201d Fremar said of Weisberger\u2019s character Andrea \u201cAndy\u201d Sachs, played by Hathaway, 43. \u201cI probably was not very nice, and I probably was high-strung because I felt like I was having to do her job as well,\u201d Fremar added. \u201cSo for me, that was really frustrating. I think she was probably just sitting there writing a book and not necessarily taking the job as seriously as I did.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fremar, who has styled Charlize Theron<\/strong>, Hailey Bieber<\/strong>, Nicole Kidman<\/strong> and more, also shared that she met Blunt, 43, and revealed herself as the real-life Emily.<\/p>\n
