You may have seen the news recently about small, independent venues being shuttered around town. Places like Vantek, the Birdhouse, and Take Your Time Back<\/a> have been targeted by the city, which is seemingly operating<\/a> at the whim of some bigger nightclubs and bars.\u00a0<\/p>\n Now, some members of the Vancouver indie music scene have decided to do something about it.\u00a0<\/p>\n Bottle Rocket Festival<\/a> was launched this week by local musicians \u201cin reaction to an ever-shrinking space for community activities in \u2018Vancouver,\u2019\u201d reads a post on the newly created organization\u2019s Instagram page.<\/p>\n The festival has a donation goal of $3000 toward the Greater Vancouver Food Bank that will come from ticket sales, combining a charity goal with sustainable artist pay.\u00a0<\/p>\n The one-day festival runs on July 3 at the Russian Hall in Strathcona and features seven Vancouver indie bands, including cherry pick<\/a>, Hillsboro, Often Wrong<\/a>, Scarlet Fever<\/a>, Jian and Kitten Co.<\/a>, Land Assembly, and Gnawing.\u00a0<\/p>\n Tickets are available on Gigpit<\/a>, a new community-based ticketing platform<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n Bottle Rocket Festival runs July 3 at Russian Hall.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
