The countdown is on for one of North Texas\u2019 biggest Cinco de Mayo celebrations, and JR Gomez<\/a><\/strong> is ready to bring the energy.<\/p>\n

During a recent interview on\u00a0The Bo Corona Show<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, the frontman of JR Gomez y Los Conjunto Bandits<\/strong> shared his excitement for the upcoming Cinco de Mayo Festival in downtown Waxahachie, Texas, set for Saturday, May 2, 2026<\/strong>. The event promises a stacked lineup featuring De Parranda<\/strong>, Stefani Montiel<\/a><\/strong>, Conjunto Cats<\/a><\/strong>, Josh Baca<\/a><\/strong> of Los Texmaniacs<\/a><\/strong>, Sammy Garcia<\/strong>, and Gomez himself\u2014culminating in a highly anticipated accordion shootout.<\/p>\n

Accordion Shootout Heats Up<\/h3>\n

A major highlight of the festival will be the accordion shootout, where Gomez will face off against some of the genre\u2019s best, including Zeke Campos<\/a><\/strong> of Conjunto Cats and Josh Baca of Los Texmaniacs. Gomez, a returning champion of the fan-favorite showdown, hinted at his competitive edge.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey keep asking me to come back,\u201d he said with a laugh. \u201cI guess I\u2019ve been doing it so many times. I\u2019m the title holder\u2014you know what I mean?\u201d<\/p>\n

The friendly battle is expected to showcase elite musicianship and electrify the crowd as each player brings their own style to the stage.<\/p>\n

A Career Rooted in Tejano Greatness<\/h3>\n

Beyond the upcoming performance, Gomez reflected on his deep roots in Tejano music, revealing a career that began earlier than many fans realize.<\/p>\n

\u201cI actually started with La Fiebre<\/a><\/strong> in \u201995\u2014I was about 15,\u201d he shared. \u201cI was going from Lubbock to Pasadena, living with the guys.\u201d<\/p>\n

That early start led to a Grammy-nominated live album in the late \u201890s and opened doors to perform with some of the biggest names in Latin music. Gomez later joined Jay Perez<\/a><\/strong> before stepping into the spotlight with A.B. Quintanilla<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s Kumbia All-Starz<\/strong> and Kumbia Kings<\/strong> and later with Jimmy Gonzalez Y Grupo Mazz<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

His versatility has made him a go-to vocalist, even stepping in with La Fiebre when needed over the years.<\/p>\n

New Music and Fresh Collaborations<\/h3>\n

While fans can expect a high-energy conjunto performance in Waxahachie, Gomez is also pushing his sound in new directions. He revealed he\u2019s currently in the studio working on multiple collaborations, including a track with Tortilla Factory<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got a lot of collabs coming out this year,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019ll talk more about that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Among his latest releases is \u201cTengo Todo Contigo,\u201d a bolero reimagined with a modern twist. Produced and arranged by Gomez alongside Mario Ortiz<\/a><\/strong>, the track departs from his traditional conjunto roots.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a whole different vibe,\u201d Gomez explained. \u201cThere\u2019s no accordion\u2014I got horns on there. I love this song so much.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also revisited \u201cCumbia Jalape\u00f1o,\u201d a fun, high-energy track he co-wrote with his father that continues to resonate with fans and could see a resurgence on social media.<\/p>\n

Known for his dynamic performances and crowd connection, Gomez says fans can expect nothing less than a party atmosphere at the Cinco de Mayo Festival.<\/p>\n
